My new Droid X only came with a 2g card. Can I buy a 16g to replace it? Can it handle one that large?

It is really simple,
1. Place new card in phone
2. Place the 2 Gig card into your pc card reader if you have one
3. Plug phone into pc with usb
4. Pull down top bar on phone and select SD Card / Mass Storage
5. Open old card directory and select left "CTRL" and "A" while still holding "CRTL" (This will highlight everything in drive)
6. Now Press left "CTRL" and "C" while still holding "CRTL"
7. Open Directory for Phone (Last Letter Drive) and then right click and select paste or "CTRL" and "V" while still holding "CRTL"
8. After all is copied you can remove usb from phone and away you go....

Interesting ... They COME with the larger card - at least MINE did --- a 16GB SD Card pre-installed. Where did you buy it?

You said "pre-installed" does that mean I can't replace it? I bought it at a Verizon store.

pre-installed means it should be in the phone already when you buy it.
I know you can have up to 32gig I beleive, at least thats what my friend has in his.
You can always replace it no problem, that is odd it only has 2 gig though

Yea, what TB said ... I had read here or on another forum that therre was a shortage of the 16GB cards ... so maybe the store you got it from was out of them? I would definitely go back though and press the issue that they provide you a 16GB card - it is included in the base model price. or refund you the difference. Be careful of after-market (OEM) cards though. There have been reports of them causing more problems than they address.

That is correct, the Droid X comes with a pre-installed 2 GB MicroSD memory card. If you want a memory card with more memory, the Droid X supports up to a 32 GB MicroSD card.
Thanks

When the DX was new, it came with a 16gb card. By the time I got mine, they had dropped to an 8gb, which is what I had in mine when the factory sent it to me. Now that the DX is getting a bit long in the tooth, of course it will only have a 2gb, but all DX phones will support up to 32gb cards. Most VZW retail stores have the 32gb card for around 150 bucks.

Droid X never gave 8 Gig cards with the unit, did you buy yours from Verizon or a 3rd Party supplier?

I bought mine from Verizon, however there's a caveat here....they were not in stock at the time, so mine was shipped to me directly from Motorola. I looked at the sd card specifically because I already had a 16gb from my blackberry. If there was another 16gb in my new phone, I was simply going to hold onto it for backup. It was an 8gb card according to the card itself, and according to what the phone said was plugged in. I ended up giving it to a friend that needed an sd card, so it all ended well. It didn't bug me much, but it's true.

Its strange because they never marketed the device with a 8 Gig but I am sure the ones that was expecting a 2 Gig this is a good improvement.

I know, and it caught my attention, but there were three factors working at the same time;
1. I was in the process of getting away from AT&T as fast as possible without running down the street screaming like a little girl.
2. I was well versed in all things Blackberry. I liked some of it, but overall it was simply too close to working with a home computer, and even with what it could do, it didn't do very quickly, and some apps never did work right.
3. I have far too much of a 'deal with things as they are' attitude to get worked up over something like this. Sure I could have gone to the VW store and probably talked them into a 16gb card, but I just couldn't care enough for the effort. I already had a 16gb card, with all my music and photos on it.
I'm sure it would be a hassle for someone getting into a smartphone for the first time, or someone without an sd card at all....at least more of a hassle than it was for me. It just reminded me that such things happen, and life moves on

All the Droids are now shipping out with a 2gb SD card. As for putting in another one, yes, you can go up to 32gb. Once you install it into your Droid, you will probably have to format it. Simple enough to do. Tap on the menu key. Tap on settings and scroll down to SD card & phone storage settings. Finally, tap on format SD card. Before you do that, make sure that the card, is in fact, mounted.

My next question is ... How do I transfer what I have on my 2 gb to a larger card? I have a case to insert one in my computer drive. Should I copy my current card to my computer and then put the new one in first and format it? Please give me steps. I am not totally computer literate; still need help with some things. Thank you so much!
