My phone recently shut itself off and when i go to turn it back on, it will boot till it hits the droid red eye screen.

Problem is, the screen is then shut off and i cant turn it back on with any of the buttons. however i can recieve messages and notifications. i have vibrate and ringtones going off and the light blinks... i have tried safe mode but it wont work.

What is going on?

And I'll Credit Wildman for these:

this will wipe device and restore device to the same state that you bought the device new.. If you have data on your SD Card that you want to prserve, remove it & copy the data afterwards, THEN reformat it before loading any APPS.

Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread)

1.     Power the device off.

Note Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
Note If the device isn't responding to input, remove / replace the battery

.

2.    Press and hold the Home key then power the device on.

Note Press the Power button while holding Home.

3.     From the Android Recovery screen, press Volume Up / Down simultaneously.

4.     Select wipe data / factory reset then press the Power button.

5.     Select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button.
Note Reset process to may take approximately 1 minute.

6.     Ensure reboot system now is selected then press the Power button.

Try pulling the battery while it is on the RED EYE - leave battery out for like 2 mins, reinsert and try it again.

When you say SAFE MODE "won't work", specifically ??? Are you saying you are pressing the MENU button & powering up while continung to HOLD it and it still doesn't get past RED EYE?

I've tried to get it into safe mode by holding the menu button when I turn it on as well as

tring to hold down the menu and the volume buttons at the same time, which I've read on this forum

somewhere.just a blank unresponsive screen,with a green blinking light

If I plug it into the car dock,I can get the icon bar to show itself as well as the menu on the car dock but as soon as i TOUCH ONE OF THE SELECTIONS THE SCREEN GOES BLANK.

What happened when you tried to just get into SAFE MODE?  Still hangs on RED EYE or what?  How old is your phone?

Do you actually see any startup at all while pressing the Menu button after powering up? Do you get the red "M"? Do you get the RED EYE?  When does it go BLACK/BLANK?  If nothing is working you might just want to bite the bullet and do a Factory Reset. or have you already tried that?

Hi Trentson,

I understand your concerns. I would be frustrated if my phone experience the same issue and shut off on it's own. I see that other customers have resolved a similar issue by doing a Factory Reset. Please follow the instructions provided by Cody21 (thank you!) in this forum. Please keep the forum community posted and let us know if the factory reset works for you as well.
