There seems to be a lot of confusion and mixed information out on the interwebs, so I was hoping to get a definite answer. I called VZW CS the other night and they had no information to offer at the time.
I bought the Blackberry Tour last year in late August. My New Every Two doesn't become effective until 04/11. I saw they announced that Verizon users could upgrade early to the Droid X, my question is, do I qualify? Will this work for the Annual Upgrade? Can I get it for $199 on July 15th with the Annual Upgrade option?
I have two lines, just looking to upgrade the primary line, bill run about $130/month for the two phones if that has any effect on the situation and I've been with Verizon Wireless for about 10 years now.

Shouldn't you be eligible for another Annual Upgrade in August again? I think that it's an every year thing.

I believe so, but can you get the early Annual Upgrade for the Droid X on July 15 or will I have to wait until late August?

The promotion is for contracts ending on/before Dec 31, 2010 so I doubt they'll move the annual upgrade up.

The news about "the chosen customers" was covered in PC Magazine at the end of the story(http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2365576,00.asp).
My contract ends June 2011 with New Every Two in February.
I have not attempted to call Verizon yet, but I did send them and email asking why they were choosing to give a privilege to some customers, but not all. I told them that I have been a very loyal Verizon customer for almost a decade upgrading handsets every two years.
I also advised them that AT&T has been better to all iPhone customers as they have been offered a annual upgrades, to the next iPhone, if they renewed their contracts for two more years.
To me, you would think Verizon would want to offer every customer access to at least the 2 contract price. Allow the early upgrade, save money on the New Every Two discounts they would not be giving out and lock customers in for two additional years.
If they don't email me before Thursday, then maybe I will call them.

I just got off the phone with a very helpful CSR
I had called in to complain about my BB Tour freezing constantly, general slow OS, text messages coming through as blanks, slow reboot times, etc. I told her I just wanted to get a new phone. She told me I wasn't eligible until 04/2011 for the NE2 and not eligible for the annual upgrade until August. I told her that August wasn't that far off, just a matter of weeks, surely they could help out a decade long subscriber and push my date up. She put me on hold and came back and said she could order me a DINC now, but it wouldn't ship until the beginning of August or she could call me back on the 15th to order a DX that would ship that day. I told her I wanted the X, so she made notes on my account and put the codes in so that if I call in before she calls me back that whomever answered could do the same for me. Also she guarenteed me the $199 price, awesome!
Can't wait for the X!!!

I have got the same situation and need some advice. Currently stuck with the HTC Touch Pro 2 which constantly keeps freezing up. My annual upgrade is due in November but this phone is driving me crazy. Talked to a CSR who told me my only options are to either get a refurb HTC phone or to pay out of pocket for a different phone. I told them I just couldn't take this phone anymore, especially since it was already my 2nd HTC, and I thought it was ridiculous to tell me to pay for a new phone especially because I have 4 lines, have been a customer of theirs for 10yrs and have paid every bill on time, they went on to say that they have no other options for me.
I really want the Droid X when it comes out any ideas of anything I could do at all???? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks

I would just keep calling back until you get a CSR who gives you the answer you want, asking to talk to a supervisor may help as well.

You will need to wait the year August unless they send you a special mailer.

You will be eligible if you are a Rewards Member. I have a Family Share Plan with 1400 minutes. That means with the higher usage and bill amount the primary line is eligible for an Annual Upgrade yearly. If you have been notified of this you can upgrade in August. You will start getting mailers as soon as you are eligible. New every two gives you a bigger discount if you wait the 18 months. This also extends your primary line to another 2 year agreement for that line.

So Sorry, I know the feeling I have been eligible since Feb. but waited and waited far to long. Looks like my HTC won't be shipped until well after the 4th of July. Ordered June 7th, the waiting is getting old due to display shortages. Wondering if we made a mistake.

yeah.....go to a store and tell them you want it a month early. if the rep says no, ask for his manager. if he says no, go to another store. it may take a few trys....but you'll get the right rep eventually. a got my envy last year about 40 days before my upgrade date. the rep on the 800 # wouldn't do it....the rep (and manager) at the first store wouldn't either. 3rd guy was a charm!!!! point out your long history with the company, good payment history, etc. I think they are doing the early thing for contracts expiring this year to compete with the iphone. at&t is doing something similar. if your contract is up in 2010 they are giving their customers the "new customer" or "upgrade" price now, if they renew.

Yeah Im in the same boat...just got curve 2 not long ago. Eligible for one year discount in 3 months..but new every 2 not until 2011. I did get the promo offer when the storm came out to renew early so Im hoping they may do the same for the Droid X. Love my bb's but I think it's time to upgrade to get some more apps. On a corporate account with shared minutes..bill average about $180 a months so I would hope I would be worthy.....
