I am having problems connecting to my wireless service via wifi connection. My wirelesss router is set to WPA2-PSK 802.11g. The device attempts to connect to the correct network, but immediately disconnects. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have a password securing your router from general access? When you first connected. did you get a prompt to enter that password and therevy possibly have an incorrect password saved? You can remove the connection to it (from the WiFi settings on the phone) and try to re-establish the connection being careful to enter the right password? Else maybe some more details. It seems to work pretty flawlessly on my phone once it was set up...

Keep in mind that the Droid X supports wireless N and some B and G routers have a issue connection with higher security setting, try changing the security to WEP instead of WPA2 and see if it connects, also change scan settings on router to a fixed B or G instead of the auto scan mode because this helps at times. Also your nouter is a wireless N router try setting to N format and try again.

This sounds like the same issue I was having. Does it say scanning , obtaining ip address, disconnected, then back to scanning over and over again? I tried all kinds of thing, from updating all my apps to factory restoring my phone. Had just about given up when other things in my house stopped connecting to the internet (not all at once which would have made more sense, but over a couple days). Realized it was my modem, unplugged it and restarted it. Haven't had any more problems with it. Should I mention that when my Droid x wouldn't connect my husbands Droid would just fine? And when, several months later, his stopped connecting I had no problems. Turning the power off on the modem resolved both our issues.

I have a question about WIFI and my Droid X. Can someone explain to me the difference of using WIFI connection versus just using the 3G for internet? Do alot of you log into your wireless at home for extra speed? Then rely on the 3G for when you are not near WIFI? THanks for any clarification.

i can't say that my home wi-fi is any faster and supposedly it pulls more on teh battery. i'll use it if i'm out in the middle of no-where at a mickey d's or a truckstop that has wi-fi and i can't pickup 3g.
if you look at the verizon coverage map you can see a lot a areas that aren't 3g.

I want to thank everyone for their excellent suggestions.
I've tried all of them to no avail, with the exception of changing the existing WPA2-PSK 802.11g settings on my router to WEP. Everytime I try it simply recursively loops through setting scans, attempts to connected, then disconnects. I have thoroughly checked the password, SSID, etc. with no success. Of course, as long as I have 3G all is fine. But I'm headed to Asia and would like to be able to use the wifi function in places where there is no G service. So based on what I've read, it appears it'll all depend on the configuration of the wifi router I'm accessing locally. Guess I'll hope it work.
Thanks for your help.

After you changed a setting, did you go to the phones settings and tell ohone to forget the previous settings? If any settings are saved that is incorrect the connection still wont work..
Also when you reset modem did you disconnect router also? If not try disconnecting router and modem for 10 seconds and then plug in modem first and then the router and allow the modem time to reconnect to network and then try to connect again, if it doesnt connect restart device so it will aquire a new ip address.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
@paulas74, You may need to add that WiFi Network to your device.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Settings.
Touch Wireless & networks.
Touch Wi-Fi settings.
- Touch Add Wi-Fi network.
- From the Network SSID field, enter the appropriate name then touch Done.
- From the Security field, touch the drop down menu.
- Touch the appropriate security option.
If presented, enter a password into the New and Confirm new password fields then touch OK.
- None
- WEP
- WPA/WPA2 PSK
- 802.1x Enterprise
- From the Wireless password / WEP key field, enter the appropriate password / key.
To view the password as it is being entered, touch Show password (enabled when a green check mark is present).
- Ensure additional settings (e.g. Peer to peer network, password type) are configured appropriately (if applicable) then touch Save.
Hope this helps, please feel free to contact us back if you need more assistance.

Still does not work for my home network. It may be that it does not work with my router security settings. Finally took it over to Verizon store and tried it on their local wifi network. It connected and held the connection. So I assume when I get to Vietnam/Japan etc. I'll be able to connect up to the hotel wifi.
Anyway, tahnksfor your feedback. Great forum.
