Droid X is now $49. Should I buy?

Was thinking that the Droid X is a bit too big and a bit too expensive so was planning on picking up the D2 since it was free (vs. $149).  However, the price on the X is now $49

Am now leaning toward the X.  But am worried that I will miss the keyboard.

Has anyone gone from a keyboard phone to a keyboardless phone?  How was the transition?

I've had a physical keyboard on my phones for the last 6 years.  When I switched to the Droid X it took about a week and I got accustomed to the on-screen keyboard.  Sometimes I miss the physical keyboard, but only in apps that don't switch to landscape input mode.

Before you order a phone online I'd make a trip to the store just to see how the different phones feel in your hand.  Play with the on-screen keyboard and see if it's something you could deal with.  I say that because if you buy the phone from Amazon you don't have the 30day money back replacement if you don't like it they will charge you a restock fee.

You need to check that link. It sent me to an Amazon page featuring a MyTouch on TMobile.

Not a deal at ANY price.....:smileyhappy:

Same here. I took your link and went to Amazon for a T-Mobile My Touch, not a Droid X. As for a virtual keyboard, I love it. The keys are good sized for a big masculine finger, plus I use swype. Gets some getting used to, but once you learn it, you'll love it. Most physical keyboards, I found the keys too small.

Sounds like a good deal, but THAT good a deal has me suspicious, even with Amazon. Like my ol' pappy used to say, "If it's too good to be true it usually isn't." These have to be refurbished phones, or something. Truthfully, I'd be careful. There is a catch somewhere.

I use the voice input method a lot now - it works remarkedly well. Better than any keyboard!

I had the original Droid and after using the onscreen keyboard I havent look back, it does take a little getting use to but after a while I can type faster with a on screen than a hard keyboard....Go to store and try the onscreen out for a little while and see how you do with it, I think in landscape the Droid X keyboard is easier to use and larger than Droid 2.

Now as for the Droid X being to large and expensive, I can agree size can be a issue for some hands but I think it fits my hands well, :and as for price :smileysurprised:, is 199.99 actually to high for a power horse like the Droid X????  I would have never thought that for a device like the X but each see things diffrently....   Also I was wondering where the Droid 2 is Free? That device is way to new for it to be a free device already, where did you see this advertised because the site has 149.99 on it here.. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedP...?

Thought I would ask....

I would check ghe Motorola forums to check all the known issues you will be getting into. I would not buy this phone at any price if I had to do it again.

What would you have bought instead? I suppose the Fascinate is $29 so not a bad deal either.

Honestly, some people would have issues with any phone they owned.

All of the complaints you have had are easily resolved and if they can't be that is what the 1yr warranty is for.  But that's cool, my phone works PERFECT.

Have you had the chance to check these phones out at a store yet?  The Fascinate has some bad reviews floating around and it also feels cheaply made when I held it in my hand.  I also don't like how Samsung and HTC have a history of releasing a product and not standing behind it.  I'm surprised HTC hasn't discontinued the Incredible yet, but I imagine it won't be long before they do.  Just look at the HTC Eris, discontinued 3 months after release.

HTC also purchases it's screens from Samsung, and they both tend to have issues with being easily scratched or cracked.  This is an area where the Gorilla Glass used on the Motorola phones leads the pack.

The Fascinate has Gorilla Glass too, but I agree that it doesn't feel as high quality in the hand as the DX.  I do like that SAMOLED screen though!

The Fascinate uses a much thiner Gorilla Glass to accomidate the AMOLED screen from what I have read.  It provides the scratch resistance, but not as much in the way of shatter resistance.  There are many reports of screen shatters from heights as low as 2-3 ft.

Also if you are looking for performance, the Droid X scores significantly better in benchmark tests.

But in the end it's all what's going to fit your needs.  The Fascinate doesn't fit mine and the Droid X does.

Now one thing I don't like about the Droid X is that Motorola cow-toes to it's consumers at times and rushes updates to meet expectations because it is a US Company.  Samsung has the luxury of being separated from it's US consumers in terms of both distance and media coverage.

I agree, I would not give my Droid X up for any of the devices presently out on any of the US carriers.  I am happy with my device.

Umm...The HTC DROID Eris was released Nov 6, 2009 and had its EOL on 6/14/10. That was SEVEN months on the market.  Granted that is still a short time.

BTW the way, my one year old Eris is still going strong.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

My opinion differs greatly from Zac's. While I would certainly look for a good price (something I do when shopping for anything), I would not hesitate to buy another Droid X.

I've had the Droid X for a few months now, and love it. Recently, I acquired an HTC Droid (Un)incredible and returned it in about five days. Yeah! There were some nice things about it, but the things I didn't like about it far outweighed the things I liked about it. I won't go into details, but I will say that the Droid X is far superior to the Droid Incredible. Also, as I said before, brand new phones, such as the Droid 2, going for pennies... I would be very leery.

I would purchase it from a corporate store. I recently bought my droid x from a store that I found out later was an "authorized agent". Everything seemed the same and the staff provided good customer service but I can't help but think the problems I've had with the phone might be due to not buying from a "corporate" store. JMHO.

Corporate is $200.  Discount places, e.g., Amazon come in at $50, Dell is $10.  Hard to justify the difference.
