Droid X malfunctioning after 2.3 updating

After my phone updated to the new version, I've experienced issues through out my phone, photo files in my camera gallery (about 25) have become corrupted, and now ANY picture I take will not save at all. My phone has been shutting off and restarting on its own, freezing when I open any apps, including Calendar, and Contacts. Is this all due to the update, or has it just broken and needs to get replaced?

Thanks in advance.

The problem is with the update. They've been screwing peoples phones up with various problems, of which the problems you mention as several of them......I've had 4 different SD card problems since the update originally came out in August....one SD card completely corrupted and the replacement card seems to have a problem once a month with the file system becoming upstable. I truly believe that the OS upgrade is causing the SD card to have issues, as there are multiple posts here and elsewhere on the internet about the same problem, all experienced after the phones were updated to GB. Verizon and others will say 'just do a hard reset on your phone and the problems will be resolved' but that's not the answer.....I have done multiple resets on my phone since the update and each time one problem disappears and another rears its ugly head. The problem is not with third party apps because I have had problems with my phone well before I even started putting third party apps back on my phone.....

I have also had problems after the sorftware update.  I have the DroidX and my wife has the Droid2.  We both have texting issues as well as processor speed issues.  One problem is when you hit the space bare a word appears in the text sentence when all I want is a punctuation.  Verizon must fix these issues with the software or allow us to back date to the previous software or we will be forced to go to another provider.  I refuse to be forced to buy a more expensive phone because of these issues.

That's not an upgrade issue - that's something you've turned on in your Settings. There's a setting to select that will make the spacebar complete a word, or insert the "selected" word that's in your predictions.

And processor speed issues is not an upgrade issue either - your phone is too bogged down.

I was having the same issues but I learned what caused my update to 2.3.3 was caused by. I didn't know this but before you updated. You needed to do an OS wipe of the previous build #, before going forward updating to Gingerbread. If you didn't do that, it causes conflicts in the new build. I'm guessing that is a large part of the problems that most DX owners are dealing with. There are bugs that aren't caused by that, which still need to get ironed out. Although, most erratic behavior can be attributed to the method which the OTA was installed, not necessarily the update itself.

That really isn't true. Many of us (me included) have always just allowed the OS updates to occur in place - never performing any "wipe"  (e.g., Factory Reset) of the phone at all ...  Not to say that you personally didn't benefit from doing so - but it really is NOT a pre-req to upgrade to either FROYO or GINGERBREAD. And is somewhat painful to go through it if you don't do the proper "prep" work.

That being said, there apparently are some "rogue apps" that benefit from doing so ...  I personally don't have any such apps installed and each OS upgrade has been flawless ... (not to say there aren't BUGS introdued in the upgrades that are OS-specific ... e.g., the only 1 I have is the auto-power-up issue after Shutdown)

FWIW, the eeason I posted that was because I had a DX , they sent me a replacement which became hyper erratic and crash before while updating to Ginger before completition. Somehow the update caused Motoblur to run in the foreground services, instead of a hidden background process as it was intended. On my own, factory and safe mode resets solved nothing. Did them w/ Verizon support, same outcome. VZW contacted Motorola support, as well, no answers. As a last ditch attempt so I wasn't w/out a phone again. VZW offered to have OS flashed if I took it into a local store. Which worked out, the guy told me it likely happened due to a conflict between remnants of 2.1, in the 2.3 build. Wiping the previous android build was the only way to ensure everything was clean and would properly function. He told me to wipe the OS, regardless of normalcy or buggy behaviour, before installing a new OTA android build, so it wouldn't happen in the future.
