Droid X near its "end of life"

I have seen articles and posts on other sites saying the projected "end of life" for the Droid X and also the Droid 2 is 03/31/11.
What exactly does "end of life" mean? I was actually planning on getting a X when I'm due for an upgrade in the middle of April.
I'm I just gonna be SOL if it is the end of its life? I haven't really seen any definite info on a Droid X-2 so if the end of life is really the end of this month, what does that leave me with? I really can't afford anything over $150 with a 2-year agreement.

They will be coming out with the Droid X2, so the Droid X (1, if you will) will be history.

Yeah I know there will be a droid x-2 but would it be as soon as the original x became discontinued? Plus that leaves me with no cheaper option. I don't want to be getting a 249.99 phone. I dont absolutely need brand spanking new technology. Frankly, I can't afford the technology lol.

All electronics go through these cycles. (e.g., the iPhone is now up to iPhone 4). That doesn't mean that the current DROID X is not worth buying - and in fact you should be able to get it cheaper than the latest greatest... it just depends on whether which device meets your own requirements. Verizon is rolling out the faster network staring this year but will take some time (years?) to get it rolled all out nationwide. The current DROID X will NOT support the new network (LTE), it is 2G/3G only.
So personally I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the DROID X going "end of life" ... No matter what you buy will be out dated a year after you buy it anyway. It is really a great phone. But check the specs on the replacement and see if it meets your needs and you'd rather wait.
Good luck whatever your decision.

Yeah I agree it's a wonderful phone for my needs. I was just fearful that end of life meant it would no longer be on sale and as soon as I become upgrade ready mid-april. I hope it still for sale by then because it has a incredible screen, great features and one of the best android powered smartphones with above average battery life

I'm sure "end of life" just means that when they run out of stock on it they won't be getting resupplied. The phone will work as long as 2/3G is supported by Verizon. This will be for many many years. Also my guess is that when the X2 is released, Verizon will have great prices on their remaining stock of Droid X's.
I bought my X on launch day last July so my upgrade date isn't until 3/12. That doesn't mean I'll be getting a new phone then but I will start looking. If nothing "grabs" me, I'll just keep using my X until something does, cuz the X is a wonderful phone/mini computer. I do know that my next phone will be LTE capable but at this time that's about all I know my next phone. Right now the Bionic would be my choice but I'm sure there will be many better (for my needs anyway) phone available when I'm ready to upgrade.
Good luck with whatever you decide......

I haven't seen anything official from Motorola on the End of Life for the Droid X, so those dates are most likely just speculation. If you research a little this 3-31 date has been floating around since August.

Dervin usually if they dont drop the price dramatically it wont go away right away as was the case of droid one as it stayed on Verizons site for a long time then went away to come back. then you could get it as a Pre - Owned. If you want to go that Way But when i got my X it was 299.99 an with the 100.00 dollars off it then was 199.99 so 249.00 is a little steep but you have options
see if on your account if its to wear you can pay for half of it. An pute the rest on your bill. if you waite about 4 or 5 Days after your account Cycles Say if your bill Cycles on the 26 of March Ok you waite till the 30th then get your phone you'll have the full month of April then in May is when you Pay the rest of what you Owe on you Phone with Phone Bill Just remember it will be a LIttle Higher
Because its on there. I've Used the Method More than Wonce to get a Phone. An if you Have More than one Line you may have a 500 or 1000 Dollar Charge Limit. One other thing your Account has to be in good standings to do this.

Yeah the X is still a 149.99 phone with a 2-year agreement so it has dropped its price very little. I'm just worried that the X-2 would be released shortly after I got my X. As far as the price goes now, I'm not too concerned because I've decided to just use my credit card and pay it off within 3 months to make it appear more affordable lol. I'm really sold on the X though because I have heard wonderful things about it's features and battery life.I thought I was sold on a Droid R2D2 because I have a full QWERTY keyboard on my EnV Touch and have gotten used to that but the 4.3" screen really makes me beleive I won't miss the physical board...

If you really want the Droid X with a 2 year contract Walmart currently has the Droid X on sale for $0.01 online, with 2 year contract.
