Droid X stuck at Moto Logo

I just got the OTA update for my Droid X.

After the install finished, my phone is stuck at the red Moto Logo.

I have pulled the battery out multiple times, with no luck.

I have also tried to access the recovery mode, trying to boot with out the SD card, all with no luck =(

Any idea as to how I can fix my phone?

How long was it "stuck" ? Mine was on the Red Droid Eye screen for 15 mins while it configured itself.

How long did you leave the battery out?  You should leave it out for around 5 mins.  Try to boot again. If that still doesn't work, you could try going into Factory Reset Mode, clear cache from there, and reboot. If that still doesn't work, might be time to just do the Factory reset procedure.   Wildman posted this in an earlier thread. (I think the Search button though is the far RIGHT button.)

Note: Use volume up and down to select opinion and use camera button as Enter,,,

Boot in Recovery Mode Wipe: - Wipes system configuration settings and loads default settings but keeps personal data saved on system, normally used to recover from a none boot status without loosing personal data.  There is times that Personal Data gets wiped also with this process..

Power Device Off First.....

1. Hold Home Button and press power

2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with astrick

3. Let Go of Home Button and Power

4. Press Search Button (Far Left Button)  *****

5. A blue menu will show at top of page, scroll to Format Device

6. Select Yes to verify

7. Allow format to complete (Information at bottom of page will go through a few steps)

8. Once Format is complete Blue Menu will show at top again, select Reboot

I have left the battery out for 1-10min on various attempts.

I cannot get it to go into the Factory Rest Mode.

When i hold the Home button and press the power button, the Moto Logo shows up, and then after a few sec the screen turns off.

I never see the screen with the android and the triangle.

Breaking it down a little further just in case:  With your phone powered off, press and hold the Home button, now while still holding the home button press and hold down the Power button.  Hold down both buttons until you reach the screen indicated in the instructions above.

I followed those directions carefully (just tried it again to make sure)

Held down the home button, then pressed and held down the power button.

Phone turned on and the red Moto logo appeared on the screen.

~5 sec later the phone turned off

(i am still holding both buttons at this point)

~10 sec later phone turns on again

Red Moto logo appears on the screen, and it remains on that screen.

The directions for a factory reset have changed for Gingerbread. You no longer press the search key. You have to press both volume keys at the same time to reach the factory reset menu. I participated in the soak test and needed to access the reset menu.

Good catch vfontjr, I didn't even think of that.

Allthevish:  I don't know what else to tell you besides head to the Corp Store since you can't get it into the boot menu.  Most times I can remember anytime someone hasn't been able to get to the boot menu it's been because they weren't holding the buttons down correctly.

Yes, good catch... I was also part of the SOAK test group and missed that. (I never did a F.R.)

Wildman - probably worth updating your link to note this change.

What do you mean no success with factory resetting, what is the device doing and which way are you resetting...

Try this...

Power Device Off First.....

1. Hold Home Button and press power

2. Screen will show a Android with a triangle with astrick

3. Let Go of Home Button and Power

4. Press Volume Up and Down Button

5. A blue menu will show at top of page, scroll to Factory reset Device

6. Select Power Button to verify

7. Allow format to complete (Information at bottom of page will go through a few steps)

8. Once Format is complete Blue Menu will show at top again, select Reboot

Sorry for not clarifying....I actually meant it is stuck on the red motorola icon. I have tried, many times, holding the Home button, then the power button together for up to almost 10 minutes. I was finally able to get to the "!" screen with the little Droid guy, but nothing seems to have worked when I got to that point.

Also, it wont do anything unless it is plugged into the wall charger, not sure if this is a seperate issue, or maybe my battery suddenly cannot charge at all??  Thank u for help:smileyhappy:

I am having the same issue exactly...  Motorola "M" in the red circle.  No other activity for at least 20 minutes.  I have removed the battery..  It comes back to the same point.  I tried the reset procedure, the only thing that shows while holding the home and power is the red "M" that slowly turns on and off.

Yeah that's exactly what I have been struggling with all morning =/

I guess I will have to go to the store after work and see if there is anything that they can do to fix it.

@docmarkc  - are you saying that when you press and hold the HOME button, then also the Power button (keeping both pressed down) that you do NOT get to a yellow triangle with the droid guy?

You MUST continue to hold both down during the bootup.

I am able to boot to the new OS with SD card in and with it out but after about 30 secs the screen goes blank except for the bar at the top. The phone is bricked at that point. Is hard reset my only option?

Your issue sounds like an app not working with the new update.  Do you have Mobile Defense on your phone?  Either way yes a Hard reset is your only viable option here.  After that load apps one by one till you find the culprit.

@crb --   the OP is not getting that far I believe.  It sounds like it's hung up at the OS level, IMHO, being that it only gets to the RED MOTO symbol.

OP - have you tried botting to SAFE MODE to see if you get past that?

Safe Mode :

- Power off

- Press MENU button & Hold

- Power up and release the power button - but continue to HOLD the Menu button (for a long time).

if should eventually come up saying SAFE MODE in lower left corner.  if that works, than as crb pointed out, you MAY have an APP getting in the way ... if it does NOT come up even in that mode, time to go to verizon.

Good luck.

@cody21 - Just tried to boot into Safe Mode as per your directions. It just stayed at the Red Moto logo the whole time (I held the menu button for 5 min).  Looks like I have to go to verizon to hopefully get this fixed.

Sorry ... but they should have the "tools"  to get you up and working again.  Stay in touch.
