Droid X update few issues.

Right after the latest update to 2.3.3 update I have had several issues come up.

The wifi hotspot feature is very slow to get going. The four menu buttons on the bottom of the screen for menu, home back and search no longer light up. It seems that once every few days I can no longer send text message and the internet access is gone until I reboot the phone and doesn't matter if I am connected to wifi or not.  Some times is seems that the notification LED doesn't work.. This is off and on. Performance can be choppy at times and is it just me or did the signal strength get worse.. It seems like it keeps going from one bar to several (depending on where I am this can be 2 or all 4) .

I hope they release a hot patch soon..

There are many posts on these issues, and if you do a search, you'll find a fix for almost all of them.

The hotspot and internet lag sounds like an App issue. The hard buttons not lighting is a light sensor issue, most likely due to a case. The LED light is a huge known issue, and most likely can be fixed by going to Settings-- Apps-- Manage Apps-- and selecting the app(s) you use for texting, calling, email, etc and selecting "Clear Cache" or by just clearing the entire cache of the phone.

As for signal strength, dial *228 option 2.

As for the Hard Button lights.. I use a soft case that does not cover the front of the phone.. But just in case.. I took it off.. (and I do take it off regularly anyhow ) to no avail. The hot spot issue.. Well its a Verizon app.. I do not use a 3rd party app for this, I pay Verizon 20 bucks a month to use it.. It does work and does not really have any internet lag when it does... Just takes much longer to get going.

The as for the internet not working it corresponds to also not being able to send text messages. The app I use for browsing the internet is the stock browser on the phone... The choppness i see is not in the internet when its working.. but in the menu browsing and such.. and again.. its not constant.. just annoying.

I will take a look at clearing the cache for the txt, phone messages and all to see if that helps with the led issues.

ok weird enough.. i just started to play with my phone a bit.. but for the past serveral nights.. the hard buton lights didnt work.. I know noticed though when I was cleaning the screen (with the softcase on btw) the lights turned on.. with the screen active.. so then I turned off the lights .. so i guessed that they only turned on when the sensor saw that it was dark.. i turned off the lights .. they worked. I will play with them some more tonight and see if they are still working when its dark in the house..

I stay up most nights untill 1 am so I am constantly working in the dark.. would be nice to have the buttons always working.

I think you misuderstand the meaning about 3rd party app causing the issue, it was meant that another app can interfer with the function of another app when the app isnt supported.  There is a number of apps that hasnt been updated to support GB just yet and if you did not update settings for updated OS you can run into issues, sometimes clearing cache works because it is removing all settings and the user can reconfig the app.

Well easy enough thing to try this weekend then is to have fun clearing my programs heh.. Shouldn't be too bad really.. But very few do I ever run actively at any given time.

Thanks, Wildman. I guess I wasn't clear about the app problem in my original post... Too many times posting that advice I guess :smileytongue:

The only time I have problems with an app is when I an using motoblurs version of gb. MOTOBLUR is the problem... not gingerbread.

I just upgraded to 2.3 and now anytime I listen to music and receive a text message the phone locks up and rebooted. Is there a software patch coming?

I'm still having problems with my Droid X after the the most current Gingerbread update.  My Bluetooth in my car (factory installed) is not working anymore after the Gingerbread update.  It was working great prior to the update and now it doesn't work.

Verizon Wireless customer service representative stated it was my car's Bluetooth was the problem and not the update..**bleep**!

Anyone else having the same problems with their Bluetooth, factory installed in car or portable?

mesomar,

I know how important it is to be able to utilize the hands-free capabilities on your device, especially when driving!  I would like to suggest a few things that should ensure you are able to pair your Droid X with your car Bluetooth.  First, ensure that your device is in Discoverable mode in the Bluetooth Settings.  Then I would suggest Deleting and Reestablishing the Bluetooth Paired Connection on your vehicle.  The instructions for this would come from the vehicle manufacturer, like your vehicle manual.

Let me know how this works for you!

Ok I went without saying it but I cant hold it anymore...  This is why I hard Reset before updates....  Issues are coming from settings and apps that was Froyo compatible that isn't GB compatible...  A number of users have hard reset and resolved these issues reported...

It is easier to follow this pattern when updating OS than spending weeks blaming the update, the update isnt perfect but I wipe all the time before updating and dont notice the issues users are having..  Please give it a try and stop having Verizon replace device for a issue you can probably resolve yourself, others have went to store and had their issue resolved by the tech hard resetting device, save yourself the gas and headache...

Hard Reset...  Also disable auto restore option..

Hope this helps.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by hard reset?  Not everone on here is fluent in the tech speak.  I for one am not!  :smileywink:

Hard Reset: - Removes all personal data and sets device back to the stock state when you bought device...

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "AutomaticRestore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

Holy crap!  That seems like a lot of work for a system upgrade.  Is that really necessary every time there is an update?  Thanks for the reply.....there is a lot of terminology used on here that makes my head hurt.  I need a glossary to refer too!  :smileywink:

Whether it is a necessary thing to do is all dependent on whether you are having unexplained issues that warrant you SEEING if this procedure fixes your problems. Many peopel have NOT had siginifcant issues requiring them to go through that (painful?) process. e.g., ME ...  Some HAVE.  If you have an APP that is causing your grief, you will likely NOT fix your issue by going through all that.  There are different methods used to troubleshoot these problems and decide WHEN to pull the switch and see if a HARD RESET fixes it or not.  If after going through all that you still have issues, it's time to start reviewing/uninstalling your 3rd party APPs.

goood luck.

I had to do a hard reset on my phone and it still isn't 100%. It's somewhat functional and there are improvements, but there are also features that are missing that were on Froyo. Signal definitely varies and I used to have solid 4 bar signal in my neighborhood and most other places. Now its all over the place. I appreciate the open concept of Google, but like everything else, there is good and bad as well. The bad is that the system is fragmented to the point where updates take several months to roll out and support for older devices is terrible. I was starting to get jaded a bit about Google in general....the gmail lacks the ability to assign label's, permanently,  to contacts, so that tag shows up when you get a new email. I'd rather mark that persons contact info so that the label automatically shows up when I get a new email from them. I find Google, in general, competent, but rather minimalist and simple. I know that has advantages, but it also has disadvantages. I read last night that Google is rather drastically updating the function of  it's web page and software, and it will roll over into the calendar as well. I am seriously considering a Windows Phone 7, after the Mango update. I used to be a Windows Mobile but changed to Android because of the severe lack of Windows Mobile staying competitive in the marketplace. If the Mango update has built in maps and navigation, I will likely buy one.

Android Limited???

You speak about fragmented OS and then you want to go to WM that the term defrag was originally  made to discribe, also WM performance couldnt ever compare to any of the OS existing, the concept of not changing anything about the operating system and make the habit of throwing a UI on top of the same base code and framework does not improve the situation.  WM is infamous to have fragmenting issues and not to forget the level of memory leaks that the OS has.  When I user WM I couldn't take the limited interface and constant low memory issues. After using Android I wouldn't accept WM again...

And blackberry is even more limited with the mobile devices, other than the nice intergration of email client support they have nothing to compare to other os..  The new device are getting better but they are piggy backing on Androids open source platform by intergrating apps to run android apps on BB platform, that not engineering, that cheating to develope popularity in my opinion..

Wow Wildman.....Thats the second, pointedly irritated response, you've given me in a week......Let me be a bit clearer....When I said there were missing features that were in Froyo, I was referring to the re organized contact list, there is only 3 main email groups now and no facebook breakdown, I find that a disadvantage, while the improved contact intergration is a plus.

2.) The contact's name photo and info DOES show up for me....I was saying I wish there was a way to assign a label that will pop up with a new email. I know you can label a contact and label the email once it arrives, but there is no way to permanently label a contact and have the classification show up everytime you receive a new email, that is a disadvantage.

3.) I NEVER said 'Android Limited??' The old WM interface was limited and very fragmented and had serious memory issues. I know from experience. I had a HTC Touch Pro with the new Sense interface, (or whatever HTC was calling it at the time) and it slowed the phone down so much that it was ridiculous. The new Windows Phone 7 phones are not fragmented at all and have to meet a fairly rigorous set of requirements for processor, memory et al. With the Mango update, it appears that it will be competant. Don't get me wrong, Android is a huge leap over WM and I like it, but getting new updates is getting conveluted and difficult. The Google Nexus had 2.3.3 last December and  the 2.3.3 in the Droid X just came out is plagued with bugs. I read recently that Verizon cancelled the 2.3.3 update for the Droid 2 Global and Pro because of the excessive bugs in the 2.3.3 version in the Droid X. I don't call that exactly progress. There is a thread on the motorola.com-Droid X blog about reverting back to Froyo.....it isn't just me having problems. A tech at Verizon said Motorola was working on an update to address the '"various' issues in 2.3.3. WP7 is tightly controlled which has pros and cons, but isn't fragmented and is showing promise as a good alternative in the future. I never said I wanted to to to a WM phone now, I am considering a WP7 phone after the Mango update......

I would never consider a blackberry. I'm surprised they're still in business and think that by next year they'll be in the same boat as Palm. It was a shame about Palm, but I have no sympathy for blackberry.

I have a Droid X, it is not rooted and I have 26 apps downloaded. Before downloading apps, I scan the reviews and make sure they are ok. I am currently using GoSMS Pro, Lookout, Syncmypix, Pandora and Widget Locker Pro among a few others. I treat my phone well and power cycle it several times a week. Following your advice, I did a cache reset, then decided to do a factory reset on my phone. I'm still having problems. Gingerbread 2.3.3 isn't nearly as smooth as the previous iteration of Froyo.

In conclusion, I thought these blogs were a place where we could say what was on our minds, good or bad. You seem to have a sour taste for some of the things I write. For the record, I have written complimentary things about Android, Verizon and other subjects. I'm a serious tech geek and love smartphones and reading about them and occasionally commenting about them.....you are making it less fun for me to pursue my hobby.
