Both are really good phones, however, I believe that the Droid X has several advantages. It has a better camera. It has a better screen. It is a bit faster. I would suggest that you do a side-by-side comparison between the two phones.

I have an Eris too and still like to use. However if I had a choice to get either of those two phones, DROID X would be my choice. The Android 2.2.1 (FroYo) on the X and the who knows when the Fascinate will be updated from Android 2.1-update1 to FroYo. No contest, FroYo now, please. I think I can also live with the Blur UI on the DROID X more than the Touchwiz UI on the Fascinate. Of course, I would eventually load Launcher Pro on both phones, but I would want to at least work with the default UI for a while before doing so. This is all my opinion after playing with both phones in the store and reading the posts on this community.

I recently had a chance to get AT&T's cousin of the Fascinate. So far I don't regret it. Silly Trust Market.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

both are good phone.

for me the x was too big

from using my wifes d2 i also prefer touchwiz over blur, but this is a personal choice

if you put anytype of a case on the x you will feel like your carrying a laptop, its just that massive

This is a personal thing. I do not find the Droid X that big. Compare it to some of the older "Hershey Bar" phones, it's small. I suppose that if you were small, or had small hands, it would be massive. I put my phone in my pants pocket with no problem, and it feels less heavy than the Droid 2.

Definitely a personal perception thing.  I have the Incipio Silicrylic case on my X and when it goes in my pocket, it just feelas like it disappears.

I think you will be happy you went the Motorola route.  Holding the two devices in your hand side by side you will notice the Fascinate has a cheap plastic feel but the Droid X has a sleek metal feel.  Also Motorola has a history of making devices that last and they continue support for them.  Heck they still provide support and updates for the original Droid and it's been out for over a year now.

Samsung and HTC both have a history of dropping support for devices as soon as they develope a new product, your Eris is a perfect example of this.

As far as size goes, I have the leather case on my phone and it fits fine in my hand and my pockets.  But then I don't have tiny hands or wear the Miller Lite skinny jeans.  However everyone who has told me that the phone was ginormous quickly retracted their comments after I allowed them to hold the phone and watch a video on it.

well im not a small guy, but as i said it just felt huge.  the fascinate feels much smaller and sleeker.

i have nothing against motorol, ive owned thier phones and the were good phones.

samsungs i have owned have been just as good.

i always advise people to go to a vzw corp store and play with any model they are interested in before buying

I am happy I got the Droid over the Facinate, I am blind in one eye and I could not deal with the blueish tint that all the Galaxy S phones screens have, the droid X is more readable for me.   Plus after adding ADW EX with my own tweaks I love the device.

Congrats and welcome to the wonderful world of Droid X.   I think you'll be happy with the X over the Fascinate.  That was one I considered a few months ago, but it just seemed small, cheaply made, and ... frankly ... more for a female (no offense).

The Fascinate has a better screen (smaller, but better) and a better camera (less megapixels, but better pictures, trust me), but it is definitely a worse phone overall, largely in part due to Samsung's crippling of the phone by leaving it stuck on Eclair.

I won't ever buy Samsung again due to their lackluster software support and neither should you.

Regarding the Eris, HTC is great about updating their high-end offerings in a timely manner, the Eris was an entry-level phone and I'm amazed it ever received any software update, let alone an android version update. Entry level smartphones are the ghetto of the smartphone world because they're not very profitable.

I see you picked the X, good choice!

I see people post this all the time yet all the tech reviews I've read state otherwise, could you please point out the differences?

Some people point out that other phones have a larger picture or that the Droid X doesn't provide a true 8mp picture.  However they don't take into account that the Droid X pixels are almost half the size of other smartphone Cameras meaning a finer image that is smaller in size than another.  Also a lot of the side by side comparisons for the Droid X vs Fascinate are compared with the Droid X in the default 6MP mode.

Here are some picture examples:
