Droid X while traveling in Russia?

Hello,

I will be in Russia for 5 weeks on vacation and studying. I was told that I could suspend my service here in the US and possibly activate my phone with a local provider in Russia (with a pay as you go). Droid X doesn't have a SIM card and I am sure the phone isn't unlocked. Can anyone help?

My resources indicate that the Droid X is not a global device and it will not work in Russia due to wireless technology incompatibility.
