Droid X2 Music skipping

Recently I purchased a DroidX2 for my husband, he loves his music and has been complaining to me of the music skipping.  He has a large amount of music files on his SD card and plugs the DX2 into the car for his ride to and from work.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Looking for a resolution for him :smileyindifferent:

I have noticed this as well on my DX since the GB update. I play MP3's on it and every so often there is like what I think you're calling a "skip". I have a couple of Music player APPS and they all do it .. Never happened in FROYO so I can ONLy assume GB introduced this. (Now for Steaming, I could understand this happening - or drop outs would be more like it. But not MP3 files which are stored locally.)

Hi koosh.! were you been we havent heard from you in a while. i agree with mr. Cody.  an has your big guy tried a 32 gig Sd card that might help quite a bit if he has alott of songs But be prepaired them little stinkers require some big bucks unless they've came down alittle in price O you can do this if buy 3 things Koosh they'll give you i think 30% off on each item. An if buy 2 items its 25% off so give this try kiddo an don't be a stranger OK :smileywink:

Hmm.... I did put a 16 gig card in his DX2 for him and it is about 1/2 full, he only had an 8 gig in his D2 and had no problems :smileysurprised:  I thought maybe it might be something to do with the X2 since he had no problems with this card in his D2 (I switched them ahead in preparation of the DX2)

He refuses to let me do a factory reset or wipe the card as he doesn't want to lose his Angry Birds again :smileywink:

I have about 5 gig's of music and pictures on my 16 gig SD card. My music playback has been stuttery in the night dock, and it reboots at least once within 30 minutes after going to bed. It has done this before and since the update. In the car dock it's even worse, it rebbots routinely.

i use the factory music player and get a little skipping, same music, both on the droid x & the old voyager, so i figure it was the source or method of getting the music on the sd card.

My music player skips too. It will play 1 - 6 songs or so and then hang up, make an odd mechanical noise and then the phone reboots in the night dock. i ran the phone in safe mode yesterday at work and played 9 songs or so with minimal stuttering and not freezes or resets. I ran it in safe mode last night and it still hung up and rebooted. Not sure what to think. My old Droid X didn't do that. Any input would be helpful.

Kooshie,
I have used this application and the version for Seasons to backup my progress in Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons. Both worked perfectly for me. I didn't backup the regular Angry Birds mostly because I didn't care about my progress in that app and this developer's backup app version for the regular Angry Birds is a paid application. Give it a try.

One word of caution. Make sure you have the game saved on the phone's internal memory instead of the sd card.

:smileysurprised: Oh boy, no wonder I couldn't get the backups to load! :smileysad: I had emailed the dev but he never got back to me, too late now he doesn't have the back up files any longer.

Thanks for the info, I will keep it in mind if for the next time he switches devices :smileywink:

I've got exactly the same problem.  I've re-formated my SD card and did a hard reset, but it didn't change the problem. Help. This is beyond annoying.  The phone shouldn't do this.

I have the same issue. I've tried everything, different players, high-speed memory, etc. still nothing. Contacted Motorola, they said they have never heard fo this problem. Researched the net - it's all over the place. Called Verizon, they said they have never had any resports of music skipping. I pointed them to this blog - they were dis-interested. I love this phone but could no longer live with the flaky music player. I reported it as a problem to verizon, they sent me a replacement X2 claiming that the issue must be my phone only. The replacement - second song I played - skipping and many thereafter. Called them and returned this for another model.

Return These Phones! there is a design flaw in the music player, all mfg's refuse to acknowledge it because it can not be fixed.

I just dealt with 2 different Verizon Wireless reps over the phone about my music skipping. Both reps said the same thing: "I've never heard of this issue before!" Both reps offered suggestions that I'd already tried (ie. uninstalling/reinstalling, killing all other running apps, force stopping and reopening, etc.) The first rep even said to me "it sounds like you know a lot about your phone!" Why yes, yes I do and I know how to keep it clean, organized, and safe. Therefore, there is something beyond my control when it comes to my music players and apps skipping. I agree with previous posts that it's a manufacturing issue and getting a replacement phone won't solve it. However, getting a completely different phone will fix it. I just upgraded from an HTC Droid Eris to my Motorola Droid X2, and I must say my Droid Eris was absolutely fabulous with playing music... no issues what so ever! I specifically asked the salesman about the Droid X2 and its music playing capabilities, since this is a very important feature for me, and I was told there was no issue and really no difference between my 2 phones. I wish I would have known all this sooner so I could have chosen a different phone. So, in conclusion, I'm stuck dealing with this for another 18 months until I'm eligible for an upgrade, and for anyone out there who is like me and can't live without their music, this isn't the phone for you.

Micannsmith79, thank you for sharing your concerns with your device. I understand how this can be a frustrating issue. I use my phone for music all the time also. The last software release for this phone which started being pushed on 10/7, corrects this issue with music skipping. I would first suggest making sure you have the most current software version by going to Settings>About phone>Software Update. The current version is Version: 1.3.380.MB870.

If your phone is showing the current software version and you are still having this issue, try clearing cache from your Music application. This will not erase music since it is on your SD card, but you still should back up the music. It also may reset your playlists or favorites. If you are still having issues, I would recommend a factory reset

@MarquiaF_VZW

The software update you refer to did NOTHING to fix the problem.  In fact, it's worse now than ever.  Caches of all music players are empty.

Verizon recommending Factory reset to address issues is exactly like the incompetent "support" from M-soft recommending fresh re-install of Windows.

I'm going back to cheap non-data plans and getting a used iPod.

DO NOT go buy a new sd card... try turning off your wifi when you are playing music. I dont know why but it works on the Droid X2 and Droid 3

This is true with MOST devices if you are using Bluetooth.  Cellular phones that tend to have both wifi, and Bluetooth use a combined chip that does both of the work.  This at times may cause conflict when running both.
I don't have trouble with it with my D3, but it gives me reason to believe your devices may have a hardware problem more than software issue.  If it was a software issue then every device would have that problem(like tinted pictures which is a white balance issue with the software).
