Droid X2 software - OS problems!

Having owned the Droid, the Droid X and now the Droid X2, I am confident that the Droid X2 has a bug ladden operating system. Almost since the first day I have had numerous problems as seen described all across the Internet, e.g., random reboots, reboot loops, icons disappearing from apps loaded to SD card, Market place crashing, screen saver being set only to find a few hours later being defaulted to the stock Droid X wallpaper, and others. Now I can march into the store and demand a new phone but that would just inconvenience my and waste my time since this is NOT a hardware problem - it is a buggy OS problem. It has been reported all across the Internet (even in some reviews). It is getting to the point of ridiculousness! Verizon and Motorola need to release a software upgrade ASAP and/or they should offer a FREE swap-out for the Bionic if/when it comes out! Verzon's quality is slipping more and more.

I want a fix now!

This is normal for apps stored on SD Card, when sd card is mounted as Storage Device the app wont show because app is inaccessible.

You wont ever see a Bionic being given as a replacement for a Droid X2..

Well, I guess I need to keep marching into the Verizonwiresless store, making my presence know, making my dissatisfaction known, and demanding replacement Droid X2 phones until they get this fixed.

BTW-The icons NEVER disappeared on my Droid X for programs loaded on the SD card so nice try but wrong answer :smileyhappy:

You might want to consider modifying that last sentence after you read Wildman's entire sentence...

(Just trying to ensure that you didn't miss it this time).

This may not be your problem or even apply to you, but hey, don't be crappy to the one guy around here that continues to be a gentleman and help people, even after they treat him as you just did.

Sorry that my answer didnt work for you on this situation but the fact is that this has been a commen reported problem with apps installed on the sd card and due to how the system handles the apps data it would not be out of the norm for this to happen.

Maybe under your situation it may be a conflicting app, have you tried uninstalling any recently installed apps and see if this may be the nature of your issue?

Thank you for clearifing my thought but I do acknowledge some answers dont work for everyone... This situation is a bit strange and has really leaned me to a possible software issue.

Sorry if my reply came across as "crappy", that was not my intent (in fact I included a smiley). The bottom-line is the OS is unstable. Performing the same tasks as how I did them on my Droid X produces unpredicatable/different results. A case in point could be that with the SD card would automatically switch between modes based on whether USB connected or not but with the X2's buggy 2.2.2 version of the OS, it isn't behaving the same way and perhaps is leaving the SD card mounted where on the Droid X it would unmount it.

Given the consistently reported and the large number of OS problems with the Droid X2 as reported by countless numbers of folks, Verizon needs to recognize that this is a serious issue and it shows that Verizon's quality is slipping. The whole issue of OS fragmentation is becoming an increasing bigger problem with Android devices. Google is doing their part, the hardware manufacturers appear to be doing their part so it is the phone companies dragging their feet.

It seems to get an OS update you have to buy a new phone and even then it is not a guaranty (case in point the Droid X2). In fact many people who rushed to get the Droid X2 were under the impression that it was running Gingerbread based on pre-release reviews (perhaps the reviewers got it wrong and/or the reviewers got devices with a different version of the OS).

My whole point of posting this thread was to put the spotlight on this problem and hope that someone in Verizon actually reads these forums and starts to get the message that the Droid X2 has serious software problems that should be relatively easy for a talented engineer to resolve...

In fact, when it crossed my mind that I should return my X2, I was 16 days into owning the phone and besides, I had given my beloved first X to my daughter (who is running Gingerbread and having literally no issues with it).

So I've decided, as I said, to just deal with it and wait for the Bionic to be released.

I have decided to restore the phone and try a few other steps to see if it gets better. I just wish that there was one glaring issue instead of the little intermittent niggles I'm dealing with on a daily basis.

I'll report back on my efforts, if anyone is interested.
