Droid broke..

So my motorola droid is dysfunctional, the screen doesnt work. The phone turns on but the screen doesnt show up. I've tried everything, battery pulls, etc.

Long story short, I'm looking for a new phone.

This is also my second droid (it is refurbished) as my first one broke as well.

What could I get from verizon? I really don't want another refurbished droid; do you think it would be possible to get a refurb droid incredible?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There is NO chance they'd upgrade you to a newer phone without a charge.  The original Droid is no longer manufactured that is why you are getting refurbished units.  If your handset is still under warranty you can have it replaced with the same model.

Do you think I could pay, say, $50 and get a refurb droid incredible?

Honestly I couldn't tell you what they would charge you.  They have been known to offer phones at the 1yr price in case of accidents.  I had an issue where they gave me 1yr price +$100 off, but it was because of a known issue with the phone model.

You're really at their mercy on it, something to consider is the main smartphone on an account is eligible for an early upgrade @ the 1yr mark.  If this doesn't work out for you, talk to a Manager and see if there is anything possible they can do to help you.  I'm sure you will have to fork out some cash, it's just a matter of how much.

Edit:  Droid Incredible refurb is $169.99 @1yr price.  In case they allow you to use the 1yr price tag.  Droid X is also the same price.

I read that they were giving out droid 2's and droid incredible's as replacements for defective motorola droid's. Maybe I'd be able to get one instead of another motorola droid.

You never know until you ask.  I received a BB 9650 Bold (refurb) as replacement for my defective BB 9630 Tour because the Tour's were out of stock.  You won't get a definitive answer here, only from Verizon directly.

People win lotteries every single day of the week but it doesn't get my hopes up when I see the Lottery machine @ the Gas Station.  It's the same way with phones, some people may have hit the exchange lottery, but I'm pretty certain there are also those who just lie about it to mess with people.  But just like the other person wrote, you won't know until you ask at a store.  If you call the toll free number, I'm sure they'd find another Droid to replace it with.

Yeah I wouldn't expect you'd get one now as there hasn't been any news of another shortage.  During the Great Droid Shortage of 2010, some people got Droid 2's since assurian didn't have any replacements for the original.  The confirmation email that those people received showing what they would be getting still showed the original droid and none of them knew til they opened the box.
