In my case I plug in the USB, hear the little tone on the laptop, pull down the usb menu on the droid and tell it to mount the device
When I look for the USB drive under My Computer is does not show up
If I look in the Device Manager, the A855 shows up as a removable disk and is functioning properly.
Still - no way to access the device since it does not show up under My Computer
Any Ideas

Safely remove all drives, restart your computer, plug in your Droid/Eris, mount it, and try again.

Thank You - but that did not work.
I did get it to work by mounting the device, going to the device manager and un-installing the device. I then restarted from scratch and it worked. Seems like there may have been some error the first time I connected or some other corruption, despite windows telling me it was operating properly.

In order for the computer to recognize the Droid, you must "Mount" it.
To do this, first plug in the usb cord to the computer and the droid. Then touch the notification bar on the top of the droid and draw your finger down. Touch "USB connected". A popup screen appears giving you several options - it's likely that "charge only" is currently selected. Simply change it (i did mine to "mass usb storage" and voila)
