Droid first charging - no indicator light ??

Dear Veteran Droid X users,

I just received my new Droid X today (I like it very much, like the feel and size and ports and just about everything - also ordered a clear wrap around case thing, and the HDMI cable and cradle and some screen protector clear things), and I took it out and plugged it in to charge it. I have read that overnight charging is recommended for the first charge, and full draining over the first few uses before re-charging will enhance battery life. So I'll follow the advice.

Question:
Is there no indicator light anywhere to indicate that the battery is charging, whilst the phone is powered off?

How does one check to see if the phone is fully charged or how far along it is, whilst connected to power charging cable?

I guess tomorrow I will need to "activate the phone" and then use backup assistant where I stored my contacts from my previous phone, and get my contact list uploaded, and go through the wizard to set up the Droid, is that all correct?

Also, should I at that point, update the software to the latest motorola update version?

Does activation require a lot of time, hours, or 1/2 hour, what?

I have ordered the manual from Motorola, until I receive it, I do have the pdf manual which I am referring to, and hope you guys can help me.

Thank you,

Debra

If the phone is powered off while you are charging, you should be able to tap the power button or press the home button to see the charging status on the screen.

Oh, and while I can't speak for others - the activation process was pretty quick for me (just like previous phone upgrades). It only takes a few minutes (maybe ten?) to get your service transfered to the new phone.

You should not need to fully discharge the phone inorder to get best battery life.  While the % indicator on the screen might be a couple %'s off it's better than killing your battery.  Especially with new batteries, if you discharge them completely they can get below the point where you phone is able to recharge them.

Welcome to the Droid X world, I hope you enjoy it....  One more thing that you might want to watch is not to charge the device on a PC USB if you have access to a wall power supply because the usb takes forever to charge and doesnt have the power to use heavly and charge...  Just food for thought and once again enjoy your device.

Thank you to all who replied to me. I plan to "activate" the new phone today and begin learning how to use it,

if you already have a verizon phone the easiest way to activate is with your old phone off, by dialing *228   1.

you'll need to know the phone password to do it over the phone and that's not necessarily the password to talk to verizon cs
