I shall start by stating that I have not gotten my Droid X yet and that I am doing research on the X and the Fascinate! I know it is a pain in the rump roast when you must wait on the phone to cycle off and then come back on. It is recommended that one turn the phone off and back on atleast once a day, even the smartphones. I let these times become the time that I do this, even if it is at an inopportune time. I had to do this often back when I was with Alltel and using the HTC Touch. It drove me mad, mainly due to the fact I was usually driving and using the handsfree when most of the glitches happened. I do hope someone has a good fix for your problem! I will keep watching this issue to see if a fix come up. I believe I need to keep up on the current issues if I am to understand the device thoroughly. So many people get the device and don't read up on it's functionality and the operation steps to get what they want. One must realize that these phones have more functions and memory than most laptops did even only 5 years ago! As the tech advances, and the number of things these phones do for us, the more we must learn to adapt to the phone. I am glad Verizon set up this Community. It helps us, as the endusers to possibly find realworld solutions for ourselves and for Verizon as well! Smart move on their part! As an owner of a Samsung Alias2 and the frustrations of having a MULTIMEDIA phone and not a true smartphone, I can't wait to get back to the world of SMARTPHONES.! I truly miss my old touch screen and am frustrated with some of the glitches in my current phone. It resets itself at times and also gets a whiteout and interrupts my game, music, text, or the display when in a call. After three replacements, I am ready to move on! I want to DROID!

When i woke up this morning I am experiencing the same problem you describe. I have no 3G connection and when i do it immediately drops to 1x. Sometimes I also have no reception at all throughout the day. I called verizon rep and they said that the towers in the area are having some sort of problem. I'll wait 24 hours to see what is done and if nothing then looks like ill be making a trip to my local verizon store for explanation. My wifes phone just started doing it tonite also with no 3g connection or internet at all. Grrr we pay good money for something we should be able to use at all times! Goodluck and let me know if you get answers and ill do the same

I am having the same issue. I generally keep the 3G network turned off and use WiFi when it is available. I recently took a trip to Alaska and did not have access to WiFi. So, I turned on the 3G network. It worked most of the time. I noticed that when I shut the phone off at night to charge it up that when I turned it back on in the morning, the 3G network would be off, even though it was still checked to be active in the settings. I had to shut the phone down and restart ... sometimes this would work and sometimes it would not.
I agree ... we pay too much good money for these services ... they should WORK!!

First lets make sure you have the most resent update on the phone.
From the main screen, touch Menu
Touch Settings
Touch About Phone
Touch System Updates
Next lets do a soft reset on the phone by powering the phone off then removing the battery and powering on the device.
Then could I get you to dial *228 send and option 1, and then *228 send and option 2.
Then you would want to make sure the Wi-fi is off.
From the home screen, touch the Menu
Touch Settings.
Touch Wireless & Networks
To disable touch Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi is enabled if a green check mark is present.

Hey Noah, if one does *228 option 1, that takes care of *228 option 2.

Thanks for the post above from tech support, but this issue has not been resolved for me and (frankly) its been driving me nuts. It seems like a number of other people have been having the same problem. Here are some of the symptoms I've observed, which I have noticed other people reporting as well:
* Periodically, as often as once a day, the mobile network connection ceases to work
* No error messages are given; signal strength indicator continues to work and phone calls can be made without a problem
* No mobile data connection will work. E.g. web pages do not load, e-mails are not retrieved
* Turning the phone to airplane mode does nothing (the airplane mode indicator does not come on) until after the phone has been reset
* Turning the mobile network off and then on again does not fix the problem
The only solution I have found that works is to power the phone off and then back on again.
Following the directions above to update the phone DOES fix the problem, but only because it powers the phone off and on again; it does NOT prevent the problem from reoccuring.
The bottom line is that I need to restart the phone each time this error occurs. This is not simply a major nuisance, it limits productivity because the mobile network shuts off without warning; e.g. I can have the phone in my pocket for an hour after the network stopped working, and not realize that the whole time, I have not been receiving e-mails sent to me. This is simply not acceptable for work purposes.
Could someone at tech support please let us know:
(1) is this a known problem? is it being worked on?
(2) is there a fix?
(3) if there is not a fix, will one be made available, and if so, when? How will users be told about it?
Thanks for your response. Frankly, as much as I love my Incredible, I need a phone that works and promptly received e-mails. I'm not going to wait until a client gets angry at my lack of response to an urgent e-mail-- I am going to break the contract without penalty and switch to a better phone.

I apologize about all the problems you are having with the new update. Future updates will improve upon the operation of the device and address any problem issues. If you have a taskmanager application on the device, try removing it or changing its settings. This may help with the overall operation of the phone.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located on the bottom of the screen).
Touch Settings.
Touch Applications.
Touch Manage Applications.
Touch the desired application.
Touch Uninstall.
Touch OK.
Touch OK.

I am having the same issue and I have NO task manager running on my phone. So, that is not the cause of the problem!

As you, it happens to me also. Not once a day, but usually when I need the connection the most. I do not, and never have had a task manager on my phone. I have done master resets, and it still occurs.

I am having the same issues. I did uninstall my task manager, did a reset, drove to the Verizon store which hard reset and who knows what else to my phone and then informed me that they can not fix the phone to get 3g coverage-no data at all. I was without coverage for about 15 days at least-no credit, of course. Sent me replacement phone, powered up, downloaded my backups and some apps., coverage was there when I started but by the time I installed several apps and tried to use the radar-no data, again. Stuck on 'turning on'. Soft reset again, got data back but who knows for how long. I really loved my phone until froyo came. I have had nothing but problems since, have even lost my phone number on the phone for 2 days, been to the Verizon store 3 times for service and resets and now am on my second phone since May. Something is majorly wrong with the new updates for the dinc.

I am speaking with Verizon Tier II now, they are advising me that it is a 'known issue' with this model phone..and submitted a "product issues form"..supposidly to submit to the 'product manufacturer' to release a 'software patch' to address the known issue..

I also have this issue.. it's annoying as can be. It usually takes me 1 or 2 reboots of my phone to get working again.. ever since 2.2 update.. Really hope it gets fixed, cause I love this phone when it works 100%. just the network glitch mainly bugs me and is the only real major problem I have. It either will not have network, or i'll have network and just not able to make calls/internet/mms until I reboot.

Tonight for me, the issue was extremely bad. I constantly had to reboot to get my data connection back.

I am back. I finally called tech support for this issue. I don't know why because this has been done before to my phone, but the tech had me do a factory reset (again 2nd time since froyo update), and it is working now. It has been working for about two weeks straight without losing any data connection. It was frustrating to have to re-install all my apps, because i don't have any paid apps that save, but it's better than having to turn my phone off 3 times a day, and better than not receiving emails for hours and not knowing it. So far so good. Maybe there was some kind of update to it when I reset it again. Don't know. Only know it is working now. And the rep called me back the next day to make sure. Which is very good service. hope this helps someone.

Guess what, I'm back again, and now I'm on my third phone. You won't believe it but 2 minutes after my last post, the data network shut itself off again. How funny (or crappy) is that? I had a new phone shipped to me from Verizon, and that phone kept rebooting itself, then I got another phone that still does the same thing. The data network turns itself off at random times. The only way to turn it back on is to reboot the phone. What is going on with these not so Incredible phones? Am I just going to keep going through them until I find one that works? Something needs to be done. Update please, or something?

Hmm, sounds like the same problem I am having with mine! I notice it first thing in the morning when I first turn it on. I immediately start to check my facebook..and I soon lost my 3g service. I try to counter that by turning on Wifi, but I soon lose that also.
I use TIKL touch to talk with my boyfriend...he says he sometimes is TIKL'ing me...and it doesn't come through to me at all..I wonder if this may be because when the screen is locked..my 3g service dies out...
If connectivity on these phones is truly cutting in and out, VERIZON has a HUGE problem on their hands..that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.

Iv'e had the same problem u all have had i'm on my third Dinc same issues an were i live verizon is doing tower updates because this area was served By alltel. But the Problem with Incredible is not a Network Problem its a Device Problem about three weeks ago i was at wits end with my Dinc I was about to pull my Hair out when i'd shut the Dinc off then turn it back on No 3G an this was the 3rd one as i mentioned that i was on an the last 1 I was going to get. I neet to say i called Both HTC an Verizon an even thou they tried to help nothing was resolved. So before i pulled my Hair out I got ahold a Tech at Verizon that wrote a trouble that went up the Ladder to T3 Tech the T3 Called me an after checking all my stats on our plan an rulling out no problems there. The Tech and I Discoverd the Problem was the FroYo update. Before that up-date on the Incredible and this was Doing 25 shut off's an then Turning it Back on it worked Fine But after Froyo It Was a Different Story the Problems U all are Having. Mine did same thing And the Tech Was seeing it happen for himself were he worked because Employees that Carry the Dinc were having the same issue So He Sent a Trouble Ticket to HTC of the Problem With FroYo. An Then He Got Back With Me an Said HTC Has Sent a OTU to Fix the Issue. My Incredible For the Most of This has been Working Ok But Every Once and a While it will Hiccup and not kick the 3G on. One thing I would check if U were in area that was served By Alltel is that U have a Hybred PRL Pushed To Ur Device and that Ur SID/NID is up to Date Doing a *228 1 Will Not Up-date the Sid. U'll Have to Call tech an get the code to go into were the SID is To Update it.! If it needs to be done. if This Doesn't Work Hopefully the Update That HTC is putting Out will Solve This Problem.!!! Were all Having. Good Luck To u All. DincX110

I am having the same issue. It shows up in several different forms, I will lose all connection to app store, email, browser and weather, and get the old "cannot connect to server" message. I just got this phone a few days ago and there are no apps on it so that is not the problem battery removal or sometimes just turning on and off "fixes it". This morning was weird, internet/emai worked fine but the weather would not update showed the moon out at 9:30 am and the temperature was way off. I think this problem is not as exposed because if you turn your phone off every night and on again in the morning it seems to be less of an issue. Customer service told me this is a phone issue and not network related. I will get a replacement on Monday, if the second phone has the same issue I will go back to my old flip phone and wait until my contract is up and go to the iphone at AT&T. We shouldn't have to jump through these hoops.
