Droid not recognizing a new battery?

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.  I purchased a backup battery for the Droid - the specific battery from Motorola for the Droid.  I plugged in the AC Adapter to the wall, and then the USB cord to the phone, then walked away.  Four hours later, the phone indicated "Connect the charger," and the Droid only showed a five percent charge.  This made no sense.  So, we put this new battery in to my husband's Droid, and his Droid showed that this new battery was at a 50% charge.   I then put the new battery back in to my phone, and connected my Droid to the Multimedia station, and then I too, got the indication that the battery was at a 50% charge - I thought, cool, it must have been a fluke.  I walked away for a couple of minutes, then came back only to find that the four buttons on the bottom of the screen (return, menu, home, and search) were flashing, on, off, on, off - repeatedly.

I've also had problems with this unit crashing on me at least once a day no matter what I'm doing whether it's on a call, or adjusting a setting, checking email, or looking at photos.  When I had my Hotmail coming in to the Droid, it was crashing many times a day, so once I removed the hotmail, it stopped crashing so frequently, but not completely.

I've read somewhere on this board that a lot of the Droids that were purchased the day of launch had problems.  I am one of those that got the Droid on the day of launch.

I'm wondering if it's time to give up and swap out for a new Droid?  Just so you know - I've also tried the *228 thing and was not able to do that at all - I got some type of pre-recorded message that the system wasn't able to initialize my phone or something like that.  Yes, I tried option 2.

I also got the Droid on launch day and ordered the multimedia docking station primarily to use as a charger.  Yesterday I used the "navigation" feature which I'm told uses a lot of battery. Sure enough it did so I "docked" it overnight.  This morning I only had a little bit of battery life left, and I got the message to charge the phone.

Since I'm at work now without any charger I turned the phone off and then back on as a test.  Sure enough, I now see a green battery almost full.  Strange.....

Btw, where do I check for percentage of the battery left?

You might try running an app designed to reset the battery meter - try Battery Refresh Beta and follow the instructions.

I too have experienced trouble with the multimedia docking station not charging the phone. At first I thought it was the back cover for the phone that was preventing the USB from sliding completely into the slot, but this wasn't the case.

Regarding a display of the percentage, I am pretty sure there is an app that does that as well.  A search for "battery" in the marketplace reveals several options.
