Droid randomly shuts off....what next?

I have a Moto Droid....purchased from a family member a few months back.  It is randomly shutting off on me, about once a day.

I have no clue if it is under any kind of warranty.  I am assuming not.  The battery and battery door are both secure.  Shaking or bumping the phone does not cause it to power off.

My question is.....should I call CS and see if it can be replaced?  Or, since I have total equipment coverage on my account, should this be treated as an Asurion replacement?

Thanks,

Bill

Ok, well it looks like noone is answering...so I will probably just go in to the store at lunch and see what happens.   Maybe they will overnight me another one...who knows.  I will update later on.

ok.

update.  went to the local store.  basically they said you didnt buy the phone from verizon.  so its not under warranty.  your only choice is to do an asurion claim and pay the deductible.  no we can't give you one in the store.

so tonight i will call and pay the deductible and get another one.  i can't have a phone that shuts off with no warning and causes me to miss important calls.

i hope this one is not a dud.

Hmmm....I just went to the motorola website and entered my serial number.... and according to motorola it IS under warranty until March 2011.

Is the reason VZW won't do anything is because I'm not the original owner?

Can someone please clue me in here?

Last night, after i found that warranty info, I did some additional searching about what might cause the problem.

I found many opinions on Task Killers and whether or not they are beneficial.

So as an experiment, I deleted my task killer and to this point, I have had no problems, and also have noted the device seems to be running a little faster.  So maybe I solved the problem  We will see.  If not I may try deleting some extra apps to see if the problem is stopped.

Task killers can cause all sorts of weird behaviors.  If the phone starts to act up again with it removed, you can try going into settings and Privacy and choosing factory data reset.  This will pretty much reset the phone to factory settings.
