Droid's Vehicle Mount

Instructions show an option to install with protective case on the phone.The charging ports do not line up at all with the protective case on.I bought the Droid X Vehicle Mount.It states that it also fits the DroidX2.It slips in easily with the protective case off. I slipped the attachment off that enables you to slipp the phone in with the protective case on .Anyone have similar experience with this mount.Thanks in Advance

The notion of being able to use the X (or X2) with or without a cover was a nice thought, but it didn't seem to ever work out that way in actual use.

At one point, I took a Dremel Moto-Tool with the sanding attachment to modify the dock to fit my X with a cover, which was fine....until I got an extended battery... Arghhhh...

So I gave up on using a car dock, unless I'm on a long trip and I remove the cover. Funny enough, the. X fits in the dock fine with the extended battery and its cover without the unhealthy pressure on the back of the phone.

This probably doesn't help much, just my experience with the dock.

i know a few folks who use the dock that didn't have any issues.

to me, having the phone sit in the dock/in the sun seems like a good way to kill the phone and why i have a standalone gps that sits down low.

I bought the GOMADIC (search it on Amazon). It works really well - it assembles over a dashboard Vent; which serves to also COOL the phone while using GPS Navigation et al. It has adjustments that slide up and down on the side of the phone to "miss" the charger connector, volume controls, and camera button.

I had to modify my car and Media dock to work with a case and it can be a pain... There is a number of universal docks that works better because they are adjustable. If you just got dock I would take it back and check Walmart or Radio Shack for a universal dock. Its less headache.

Now as for the mounting area I mounted mine on center dash and use the HDMI to connect it to my video units dash unit to have video and audio come through radio.
