Droid shutting off

My droid has suddenly started shutting off on it's own. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes I am texting, sometimes using my map, sometimes browsing on the internet. I have visited the store and been told I am pretty much out of luck unless I want to pay for a replacement phone. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to resolve it?
Thanks a bunch!!!!

Step 1 would be to check the battey. Take it out, clean the contacts, even if they look clean. Take a very small object and make sure that there isn't anything interfering with the contacts.

I had my Droid x for less than an hour and it started doing that. I called Verizon and they are sending me a new one. I have to wait a couple more weeks because they are on back order. I had to go back to my BB Storm 2, what a disappointment.
