Is this happening when you have texts or emails, or really just whenever it wishes to do so?
I am trying to figure that out.
I believe it is notifying me of emails because I receive them 24/7 and I set it up to notify.

Go into your email app, select the account, if necessary, then Menu > Account Setting > Select Ringtone and pick the notification sound you'd prefer to hear or set it to "Silent" for no sound.
It is a similar procedure to change text messaging notifications.
