Droid touch screen freezes...

I received my Droid on Nov. 10th.  At least every day the touch screen will freeze, usually when I'm not using it.  I'll push the power button to activate the screen and it wont register my finger to unlock, it doesnt recognize it anywhere.  I have to turn it off using the direction pad on the physical keyboard which is annoying because the droid takes so long to turn on.  The real pain is that it doesnt always work, I'll turn it back on and it will still be frozen.  Did I get a lemon?  Is anyone else having this issue?  I can't deal with this any more.

Buddy you definitely got a lemon.  These types of touch screens, being capacitive, do not typically behave this way.

Did anyone find this answer yet?  My phonewas fine.  I ended a call, put the phone down.  The phone rand and the touchscreen did not know i was there...it won't unlock.  I have done soft resets a few times with no luck.  Motorola told me to send it to them for repair and be without it for a week.

I love this phone.  The worst part is I have text messages from people that mean thousands of dollars in business...i can't view them!

Is there no plan B to use the keyboard to unlock the phone?  HELP!!!

Assuming you bought the phone from Verizon, they are who you should call, not Motorola.  Verizon will replace it either at a local store, or if the store doesn't have any, they will Fedex you one 2nd day air.

Call service (#611) and explain the situation.  You definitely need a new phone.

my wifes eris has the same problem. Locks up daily. we replaced it and the new one does it as well. My eris has no problems. I run more apps than she does and use it all the time. Wish there was a fix.

My phone locked up yesterday (its still locked up). Today I spoke with Verizon about this very problem. They recommended getting a replacement because there is nothing they can do. Two different reps. provided the same answer. I suggested that this was a manufacturing defect to which they replied that since the 30-day manf. warranty was expired I would be able to use my own warranty. The thing is you only get one of those replacements a year. And, who is going to get all my apps back? No answer from Verizon on this either. Clearly, Verizon and Motorola rushed the Droid to the market without thoroughly testing. Never heard this happending with Iphone.  [Takes a dimmer view of Verizon after this.]

I can relate to how frustrating it is for your phone to lock, then remove the batter, and wait for it to reboot. I would recommend trying a task killer to kill the some of the unnecessary apps that run in the background. This will free up some memory and you will definitely see a change in performance. One that I now about is Apollo Task Killer. It has a auto kill feature, that is real nice. Before setting the auto feature make sure you set your ignore list so it doesn't kill the programs you want to keep running.
