Droped Droid in toilet, HELP!!!!!

today i knocked my droid into the toilet, when i took it out it was still on so i pulled the battery out, then left it to dry for about an hour. I put the battery back in and hit the power button, the white motorola sign came up, so i thought it was fine, but then a screen came up saying:

battery OK

OK to program

connect USB

data cable

HELP!!!!!!! wut do i do?

Try putting the phone with battery out and the battery cover on in a bag of uncooked rice for a day. Then try and turn it on.

Hopefully it wasn't ruined.

Hello liamdelucia,

I know what an inconvenience this can be to drop your phone in water. I would recommend to leave the battery drying over night, if you haven't already. If there is significant amount of water in the device and you are still receiving the same message or if your device is no longer working please let us know so we can review replacement options for you.

First, my sympathies. I dropped my beloved Droid in the deep end of the swimming pool when I was closing it for the winter. It slipped out of a velcroed pocket, as its weight was greater than the strength of the velcro when I bent forward. It was underwater for about two minutes before I was able to fish it out.

The good news is that my Droid did fully recover, but it took some extensive research and good luck to make it happen.

It is essential to thoroughly dry out the phone before you proceed. I pulled the battery and microSD card and left everything in a bowl of rice for five days. I intermittently used a hairdryer on the lowest setting to speed things along.

At that point, I powered the Droid on but was only able to get to the bootloader screen you described. To get past that, you need to do the following:

1) Remove and re-insert the battery

2) Slide open the keyboard and hold the "x" key on the physical keyboard while pressing the power button. A triangle and yellow exclamation point will appear.

3) Simultaneously press the volume up button and camera button on the side of the phone. Android system recovery options appear.

4) Use the dpad to scroll to either reboot system now or wipe data/factory reset.

At that point, my Droid booted into its Home Screen, but only had partial functionality. It had wifi, camera and music capability but would not log onto Verizon phone network, so it would not function as a phone. I had to buy a new phone, but kept the old Droid as essentially an Ipod Touch for the family to use.

Then one morning, an OTA update arrived via wifi and miraculously restored the old Droid to full function!

If the above steps don’t work for you, you can try downloading the current Android update (2.2.2) via computer and load it onto your microSD card. Then use the above steps but choose “apply sdcard:update.zip”. There are links to the current Android update available online.
