Early adapters can't upgrade??

So, I was one of the first people to buy the Droid when it came out last year.

However, when I went to the VW store today to see about upgrading, they told me I wasn't eligible to upgrade my phone until next year and that my only option was to pay the retail price of $599 to get the Droid X. No thank you, Verizon. Way to screw your client base by forcing them to stick with a phone for two years.

I have another phone through work on Sprint, and they NEVER give us any hassles when we want to upgrade phones. I think I might just cancel my account and stick with Sprint. :robotmad:

We upgrade our phones constantly through Sprint, even if we may have only had them a few months. All they require is that we sign a new 2 year contract for that phone. We never have to pay cancellation fees, and we always pay the upgrade/new phone price, never the retail price.

And considering that Verizon has made nearly $1,000 off of me already (nearly twice the "retail price" of the phone), you would think they would let me do the same.

I don't know what the problem would be...They'd be getting my money for a total of 2 years and 8 months, not just 2 years.

Yeah, I think I'll go ahead and cancel. I'd rather pay the $375 then pay over $1,900 for my remaining contract just so I can save $400 on a new phone.

Cell phones are a rip off anyway. Lord knows it doesn't cost them $600 to build these things. They just jack up the prices so they can take $400 off and tell you you're getting a deal by signing a two year contract, which - in the end - will net them nearly $3,000 in service fees. I can buy a REALLY nice laptop that does a hell of a lot more for that much.

How is Verizon screwing anyone? You signed a 2 yr contract.  They're not going to let everyone just go in and upgrade their phones in a year.  It's common knowledge that there will always be a better phone 6-12 months down the road maybe even less.  Sign a 1 yr contract or get on a plan that allows an annual upgrade (base plan of 49.99 or higher and only applies to the primary line on a family plan).

Honestly, this argument is getting old...  You want a 2year price for a new phone after only 8 months into a 2 year contract?  There is no company in the world that's gonna go for that.  I've had Sprint before and they do not give you a new every 2 price after only 8 months.

Any company will let you get a new phone whenever you want it, but they are not going to give you discounts on it.

what pjnc said. there are annual upgrades for different types of plans (although you don't get the "full upgrade price....but you'd prolly get it for $299). there are also one yr contract prices. but if you got your droid for $200 or less then it's because you signed a 2 year contract. "new every 2" means just that. you can get a new phone every two years. i find it hard to believe that sprint will just give you $600 phones for $200 whenever you want, but if so, then by all means go get em!!!!! but read the contract you sign.

Don't forget that $350 early termination penalty as well.

And no, Sprint does not give you a $600 phone for $200 whenever you want it, only during your upgrade window.

I believe the Internet needs a *Sarcasm* button... maybe even position one directly above the "backspace" key on your keyboard.

Contracts 101 would be great reading for you.

And I'm still calling {word filter avoidance}
on the Sprint 2 year price any time you want.  Only on my Sprint corporate account could I update more often than every 2 years, and that was because my employer paid full corp price for the phones.  We were limited to once every 6 months through the company.

Wow, you solved your own problem! You just come here to scream and yell, but don't wasn't to listen to people who have some common sense? Most people with MAJOR problems with their phones can't get an early upgrade yet you feel entitled to get a discount just because you jumped the gun. If you think you will enjoy a new phone every few months with less than stellar service, go ahead, you deserve it.
