Efficiency settings or apps?

I went to a Verizon store today to exchange some accessories. I tried using the Droid X that they had on display. It was running very fast and smooth. In addition, it had everything running - bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, bright screen, etc. In addition, it had also sorts of apps installed and running (animations the screen, HD video demos of various kinds, etc.) To my surprise, it made my Droid X seem very slow and sluggish. I checked and this super fast, slick looking Droid X in the store did not have 2.2, just the same updated 2.1 that most everyone else has.

So does anyone know of things I can do to increase the apparent efficiency of my Droid X, so that it runs as fast and as smoothly as the one in the store? I believe have all my settings set right; the only difference I can think of is that I keep my battery setting on smart instead of performance (or battery saver). Are there apps that clean up your Droid X and somehow make it run better? Are there apps that might make it run faster? Are there any special settings that for this that I might have missed?

Please, I would appreciate any thoughts/feedback. Thanks...

You can pick up a task killer for free on the marketplace, but I've frankly stopped using mine. I find the phone to be more responsive if I let it handle it's own memory. There are possibly some of the local bloatware apps disabled. I know that Blockbuster and CityID constantly respawn in my running apps and when they do I tend to get a little slowdown (especially with CityID for some reason). The custom demo models could potentially have those disabled since they are pay for play. Did you check some of the other process hungry features on the phone? Was the background animated? Were all of the widgets active?

And changing your phone to performance does make it feel zippier, for sure. But you definitely get less life out of it.

thers a couple things you can do to make your phone run much more nicely. first off turn off background data on the phone. easiest way to do that is apps>settings>battery and data manager> data delivery> un check background data. this will help the phone with some of those apps you have running in the background. and i agree with occamsmonkey. app killer can be nice but they also dont stop any apps that are set to "start on startup" since those apps are grouped in with the apps needed for phone to run. its also is a large app itself usually so under many circumstances will slow the phone down just as much as many as the apps it stops. i would suggest looking under battery and data manager(see above instructions) and tap battery usage. find out what is using your battery (if something is using power its also using up cpu and there will be the thing slowing your phone. ) also another thing to do regularly to keep your phone running well. stores do this as well is to erase the browser cache in your phone. that would be to bring up your browser hit the menu key(squares at the bottom left ofyour phone) hit "more" then go to settings. from browser settings go about halfway down clear cache and browser history. (your phone  saves all kinds of junk from websites you dont need,  a full hard drive is a slow one especially in a phone with limited/no ram to keep it running smoothly) these few changes will immensly help your battery life and keep the phone running in "like new" condition for much longer.

it's a demo phone that has limited internet access.

bluetooth, unless you take the time to pair your earphones......, wi-fi is always going to be faster than 3g.

2.1????? my dx came with 2.2 a year ago in dec, upgraded to 2.3 in july, with many other folks.

a strange droid x you were playing with.
