Email accounts being deleted from Droid

I've had my Droid for 10 days and twice in the past week, I've opened my phone only to find that my corporate email account has been deleted from my phone.  I still have my contacts and corporate calendar, but the email acct (and all messages) are missing.  My corporate IT folks say they haven't done anything.  I'm curious if anyone else has had this problem, or if I have inadvertantly deleted the account (TWICE)!

I have the exact same problem except all my email accounts are deleted. I cannot figure out what action I might be taking that does this. It has happened three times. My contacts and calendars are still intact but my Exchange account and two other POP accounts disappear (settings and email). I have to reenter them as new accounts each time. It is the only annoying thing about the Droid so far and if it isn't fixable, my love affair with this device may be ending.

I do not have any POP accounts setup, but my Exchange account has worked fine since I set it up on the 6th.  I even installed another Exchange connector (Touchdown) and had both it and the native app working at the same time with no issues, other than redundant notifications.  Just a thought, but you guys may want to look into the apps you've installed that you may have in common.   It could be one app conflicting with another.  Maybe remove all of the non-OEM apps and see if the problem still exists.  If it does, then I'd say it's a hardware or firmware problem, but that's just a guess.

I'm having the same problem. This issue first happened after I installed the 'Advanced Task Killer' but I'm not sure if that's actually related.

Try excluding it from the list of processes running, all you have to do is long press said process and put "exclude". Now everytime you use the widget to instantly stop all processes running, the ones you excluded will kepp running.

Well, I had it happen again, its been about 10 days and I opened my DROID Email and its back to the setup wizard... I had zero'ed in on it possibly being one of two apps, I removed them, one was Advanced task Killer X, I had made it almost two weeks so I figured it was one of the apps, turns out, I have a totally stock phone, new hardware, factory build, no apps... ALL EMAIL ACCOUNTS gone.... just an hour prior I was sending and receiving no problem.... Verizon, This is an issue... I have had a G1 for nearly a year, never had this happen, even today, it still works.... I am happy to test any theories or ideas here.... (DROID is a test phone until i holds up...)

I had a very similar problem...

2 accounts in Droid: Corporate (Exchange 2007) and .Me (IMAP); for 2-3 weeks, they were working absolutely fine. One night after listening to Pandora for an hour or so, I went to check Mail and was presented with no accounts.

Power off/Power on again just in case and the Mail app prompted me to create accounts as if from factory reset. However, Corporate Cal/Contacts were still syncing fine and the Accounts list showed the Exchange account for syncing.

I did have a task killer (Advanced Task Manager Free), but Mail is set up as an Exclusion and it is only set to manually kill tasks; I hadn't run it recently prior to the Mail settings disappearing.

I typed in the account settings again for both the Corporate and .Me accounts and everything has been working fine since for another week or so.

While I'd obviously prefer a fix to whatever bug is causing this, I'd also like any recommendations for good settings backup/restore apps...

Thanks,

I agree, okay here's my lovely email story about my droid eris: I installed the 'Advanced Task Killer' a week ago...

Today I changed my lock password and forgot it immediatly, to get into my phone i need to write my gmail address and password which WONT WORK!! I have been on the phone with customer service for an hour, gmail has been deleted off my phone and I can't get into my phone. I can only recieve calls and dial 911. Freakin terrific!  I have to go to the verizon store, have my phone a) possibly wiped out, b) get a new phone. Thanks advanced task killer yes you help battery life, however yes you delete email accounts and caused me unable to access my phone!!! WARNING TO EVERYONE DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSWORD OR INSTALL ADVANCED TASK PHONE KILLER!

The sooner people stop being so **bleep** and allow Android to (properly) handle memory clean up and allow the apps that are supposed to run... actually run... These issues will stop coming up.

I wish ATK was removed from the Marketplace.  Not becuase there is something wrong with the app itself... it does what it says it will do, but it seems people are just a little too obsessed with having everything out of memory, they force closed processes, and that inevitably causes data failures.

Android handles memory management very well... let it do its job and you just enjoy your phone.  (You in the broad sense of course, I am not picking on any one particular person).

The setting up of Exchange on the Droid is starting to get monotonous. My settings have been wiped 3 times in the past 2 days.

I am the person that originally posted this message.  After getting some of the recommendations above, I deleted the only 3rd party app I had downloaded onto my phone (Sudoku Free from genina.com).   My email account from my exchange server remained stable for 3 weeks after that.  I had a hardware issue and got a replacement phone 2 weeks ago.  At the same time, I installed 3 apps that the verizon rep recommended: ATK, The Weather Channel, and Barcode Scanner from ZXing Team).  Phone had worked fine until last night, when my email account got deleted again.  The Barcode Scanner was not resident in memory at the time.  Earlier in the day, I had downloaded an update to the Weather Channel app.

What are we supposed to do? Not download any apps?

This is VERY frustrating

Had the same issue January 3rd.  I have had my Droid since early November with no problems using two gmail accounts, three pop accounts and a exchange connection.  Then I went to check my email and got the account setup screen.  The two gmail accounts were fine, but the pop accounts and the exchange account were gone.  The interesting thing is that the exchange account showed up in settings -> accounts & sync.  But if I selected the account and selected Account Settings it would not display the account settings.  I deleted the account from accounts & sync, then entered the account again.  Working so far, but there is a data corruption somewhere making the account loose its details somehow.

I sent this to Verizon and got a response telling me to make sure I have an internet connection (duh), turn off the phone and pull the battery.  Very unhelpful and did not acknowledge the problem.

I've had my Droid since Nov 09.  Started experiencing random deletions of both my exchange and pop accounts about every 8-10 days.  Removed ATK based on various things I've read on-line.  Problem continued on about a weekly basis.  Recently (within last week), both accounts have started to be deleted almost every day.  This is a major bug for an otherwise excellent device.  I sure hope Verizon, Motorola and/or Google come up with a fix quickly and don't fall into the "user error" mantra trap!

Anyone have recent advice on this?  Thanks.

Email accounts being deleted is a bug in android. Goto http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4866 and vote for the bug to be fixed.

My experience is the same - 2 months email works fine then out of the blue accounts get deleted, not while doing anything on the phone, just pick it up, press email and presto up comes the set up screen.  First time call Tech Support, told there is no known issue, sorry.  Happens again go to store, guy walks around and asks other employees, no known issue but replace the phone.  Third time call TS guy tells me that yes it is a known software issue with corporate email accounts at this time, with NO SOLUTION AT THIS TIME.  Options are to wait or pack everything up and take back to store for different brand of phone.  Very nice...

Only thing I was thinking whether any of the email apps might solve the problem - K-9 mail, etc.  Any thoughts?

I am having trouble with my email as well, not being deleted but the POP emails are not being delivered to my phone.  They worked fine for about the first 2 weeks then all of a sudden the stopped coming.  I rely on my emails coming on a regular basis as they dictate my schedule for the day and can change minute to minute.  I have checked all setting repeatedly and all are correct and I should be receiving any new emails every 5 minutes but I don't get them at all.  Occasionally I can hit the email button and it will force the emails through (but by then it's too late and my schedule has been blown) but not always.  I have been into my local store a few times they send a test email while I am standing there and it comes no problem but the minute I walk out of the store they stop coming.  They can't figure it out and have told me there is nothing more they can do for me, to just try and deal with it.  The whole reason I got this phone was for the instant email notifications I was promised.  Wasted a lot of money on a phone that is not doing what I was told it would do.  It is not any good for me if I can't get my emails.  Anyone have any suggestions before I just scrap this thing.

Wanted to add myself to the litany of disappointed Droid owners - have had it for 10 days, and this morning, poof - two POP email accounts, an Exchange account, and an Exchange calendar are gone. Gmail remains unaffected. What gives, Verizon?

I just got hit with the problem.  Everything was working fine until the e-mail application froze up and I was prompted to do a forced close.  While I was running ATK at the time, the app was closed with Android's force close function.  After the fault, two IMAP accounts and one POP3 account lost their configuration.

I have removed ATK for now.  If I try to reconfigure one of the accounts now, I can enter the configuration and pull up a message list once.  After a few seconds, the e-mail application refreshes the listing to show no messages and either goes back to an empty acounts listing or hangs again until forced closed.

I am currently unable to add any new accounts that last more than 5 seconds.  GMail accounts do not appear to be impacted.

I have had two droids over the past two weeks and have repeatedly had the same problem of losing my exchange email and two pop3 accounts. I have no applications on the droid that did not come OEM installed. WiFi is turned off. My mailbox is about 2MB. With the first phone I lost the accounts after about 3 days. After the factory reset the accounts stayed for about three hours. With the new phone everything was fine for about 5 days. then yesterday I lost the accounts twice, luckily they are easy to set back up. We have done the factory resets, data and cache clears, new phones, reduced the number of synch days and none of it seems to matter. The motorola and Verizon help desks all says that I am the only one! I told them to go read these blogs.

I have a different recurring issue with my Droid. However, I had the same experience with the Verizon and Motorola people acting as if this was something they had never heard before. Your issue of email accounts being deleted and my issue are well documented issues on numerous forums/blogs. I find it very frustrating that they acknowledge nothing. They really lose a lot of credibility in my eyes because of the denials. I purchased my phone on 11/6(the first day it was available.) I am not surprised that there are bugs. I expected them in a brand new product. But, I would also like to think that Verizon and or Motorola would not pretend that certain issues do not exist.
