DROID devices provide instant access to Gmail, Google Contacts and Google Calendar as soon as the user completes setup of their Google account, which can be completed during activation.
Linking all other email addresses to the device is quick and easy. Android devices offered by Verizon Wireless include preinstalled applications that support the following email protocols:
- Microsoft® Exchange
- Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3)
- Internet Mail Application Protocol (IMAP4)
Note: Customers that need assistance in determining the type of email protocol used by their email service should be referred to their email service provider or IT department.
Additional Information:
- From the Inbox, you can select Menu, Account Settings and explore available options.
- Examples: You can set how often you want the DROID to check for new email (longer intervals can be used to extend battery life), your default email account, how you are notified of new email and more.
- Users can add multiple email accounts to their Android device.
- Email Attachments: Android devices support the ability to download and view common attachments including images, PDF format documents and Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
- Hotmail/Windows Live Accounts: While setting up email, you will receive the following message, "Attention: Only some 'Plus' accounts include POP access allowing this program to connect. If you are not able to sign in with your correct email address and password, you may not have a paid 'Plus' account. Please launch the web browser to gain access to these email accounts." When you select "OK", your account should still configure automatically.
- To confirm a successful setup, send a test email to email@vzw.com. The 10-digit number of the device must be included in the email subject line and a confirmation email will be sent.
Email Security:
Android devices support email security using the following protocols:
- Secured Socket Layer (SSL) is an encryption standard designed for authentication and transport of information on the Internet.
- Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a secure communication protocol, closely related to Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), used on the web for authenticating websites to web browser users, and for encrypting communications between browser users and web servers.
Security supported by email protocol:
Security | Exchange | POP3 | IMAP4 |
---|---|---|---|
SSL | X | X | X |
TLS | X | X |

Why won't Verizon just give us Wireless Sync? This is a deal killer for me and I'm sure for many other POP3 users. We need/expect smartphones to push email (even with a POP3) as well as sync everything in outlook, including tasks and notes. What's so smart about a smartphone that won't sync tasks? It's hilarious, even the exchange option doesn't sync tasks and notes. Manual syncs are a thing of the past so all these workarounds are a joke. Wireless Sync is a great product. Give it to us or there will be tons of Droids getting returned under the 30 day policy.

Ok, first off, don't make that kind of statement when you're not informed. Your ignorance is obvious, so making that kind of statement just told me what kind of person you are. I'm surprised you made it this far, you should have just gone to Walmart and asked "Whut R a good sell fone??? Duhrrrr"
Here's why, I don't pay anything extra and:
My calendar syncs two ways between my Droid and my computer.
My Contacts do a two way sync between Droid and my computer
My Emails all do a two way sync (I use mobileme IMAP and Gmail) between Droid and my computer.
All of this is sync'd how? Over the internet, in real time as changes are made.
Google is the conduit, to top it off I'm on a Mac, something that Motorola designers probably haven't even heard, yet it works flawlessly. That's due to the superiority of what I've chosen over what you can even comprehend. Play along kiddy.

The Documents to Go app seems to only work with the gmail account. How do you view/edit attached documents from other sync'd emails (corporate/yahoo/etc.)?

! corporate account and up to 6 personal accounts. I've seen double that (14 personal) and the device still works correctly.
