Extended battery won't charge beyond 80%

Replace what I thought was a bad battery with a new, extended one. Turns out the phone wasn't charging batteries at all, so Verizon sent a certified replacement. New extended battery, new (sorta) new phone. All was well until last night. Plugged it in to the wall charger and it wouldn't charge beyond 80%. Today, same thing on a USB charge- won't charge beyond 80%.

Any ideas, or will I need a new phone- again.

It sounds like the problem could be related to your charger itself. Use a battery monitor like Smart Battery Monitor. If your voltage is showing over 4.1 volts you are likely getting a 100% charge and your phone's just not showing the 100%. I'd give it a couple of days as long as your getting 100%.

Also are you using a Motorola branded extended battery with the extended battery cover?

Yes, using everything motorola and the cover that came with the new battery.

You're pretty close to 100%. Keep an eye on it and watch for when it gets over 4.1v I'm showing 80% with 3.955v

From what I've read on other forums, all Droids have problems showing what the actual percent charge is on an extended battery.

That being said...I have an extended battery and my phone seems to be reading the battery correctly.

Actually it should be reading it just the same as a normal battery. The % is based on the voltage. 4.23 being complete max charged. I believe it starts showing 100% somewhere in the 4.1 range.

The extended battery simply has a larger storage capacity, in that it can maintain a voltage for a longer time, or withstand more fo a load with less draw down.

In the simplest terms I can provide: Imagine the battery is a glass, electricity is koolaid in a pitcher. With the extended battery, you have a larger glass, but it does not make the koolaid mixture stronger if you pour it in the larger glass.

Oh yes I see what you mean. I think there might just be an issue with the % reporting. If the battery gets to 4.23v it's 100% no matter what he % says.
