Fascinate retired by Verizon

I just checked and it's no longer on Verizon's smartphone page.
As for me I've been rocking Gingerbread for a week now and loving it. CyanogenMod rules!
Here is the text from the Droid Life article:
No, we didn’t put the word “RETIRED” on that screenshot. That’s actually how Verizon is referring to the status of the Samsung Fascinate as of this week. The device has been pulled from Big Red’s online shop and will probably be just as tough to track down in store. As far as we know though, the device will still receive Gingerbread, but after that, support will likely dwindle. Not a bad run for a non-DROID branded device, except for the amount of time it took to see Froyo of course.
So if a device is on the way out, does that mean that something will replace it? We would certainly hope so. Right now there are rumors of a device from Samsung called the Stratosphere, which may or may not be the Galaxy S II. We’re pretty sure that it will be one of Verizon’s next 4G LTE devices, but other than that, device specifics have not been revealed. Or it could end up just being that Epic 4G-esque device with a slideout keyboard that we saw a couple of weeks ago. Maybe a Fascinate II? It is anyone’s guess at this point.
Fascinate owners, sad day or just shoulder shrug-worthy?

Since they can't continue to sell a non functioning phone I guess Verizon finally decided that the Fascinate was more trouble than it was worth and got rid of it.
Funny they still want those of us with Fascinates to get another Fascinate as a replacement for our current problem phones, but they won't sell them to new customers.

I find it interesting that they had no problem selling my wifes old phone as being new to a different subscriber. We had thought we had purchased a new phone only to find out it had been used but Verizon refused to send a new one but had no problem replacing it with a refurb (currently on 3rd refurb in less than 2 months.) Verizon is really doing a dis service to its customers. makes me question to how many others are being taken for a ride without knowledge. Only reason why i know what I know is someone else choose to be honest and forthcoming with evidence, Another words -- I have the names and phone numbers along with purchase dates in writing (aka computer print out. nice evidence 🙂

As you stated in your other thread this was sold at an INDIRECT not a real Verizon store..
Also that really nice person that compromised the accounts of other customers should be fired on the spot. No company should give out information like that

If its not a "real" Verizon store, then it should not be rockin the VERIZON logo and sign and saying "Authorized Retailer"
If its an authorized retailer, Verizon is responsible for it and it is a "real" store. Verizon just likes to give the run around harp on "Authorized retailers have to do such and such"
Plus retailers will say ANYTHING to make a buck, and then deny and send you on a wild goose chase once you figure it out

Given all the problems with the Fascinate, I wonder if Verizon passed on the Galaxy S2 because of them. . I was really wanting to get a Galaxy S2 over the Droid Bionic....

Same here, the S2 looks like a great phone.
I guess we'll have to wait to see what the Droid Prime, Nexus Prime or whatever they wind up calling it is like. The few specs I've seen indicate it is going to rock!
