Given every other rumor, unless I hear it from Verizon, I'm not trusting it.

Mid-Late July, August 18th, August 28th, August 27th, Sept. 1st, etc.

They're all rumors until Verizon says otherwise. Don't trust the blogs and news outlets.

For example, as of 5 minutes ago, their Twitter support is still saying they do not have any information about the Froyo update for the HTC Droid Incredible:  http://twitter.com/VZWSupport

the pdfs are available and the 2.2 will be tomorrow.   not a very big deal because this phone is INCREDIBLE RIGHT NOW!

clearly 2 pdfs are available about 2.2 so update is imminent.  I think all of you who have been anxious for the update are going to be sadly disappointed.  Reason.  This phone is already fantastic and is the state of the art smartphone.  The upgrade is indeed minor.

No clue to be honest, but that's where the August 18th update was "publicly" debunked.

The blog article makes a reference to the support articles which has two PDFs:

http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/incredible.pdf

http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/incredible_instructions.pdf

There is no release date posted on the website, and the PDFs were created on the 25th (check the document properties). It sounds like the blog author stumbled across this and took it as if they were releasing it tomorrow.

Since Verizon has changed the specs on the Incredible to 2.2, it seems they expect new Incredibles to be shipped with 2.2.

So, the rollout should be tomorrow..... could take up to 2 weeks for everyone to get it though.

Well if you go to page to buy the Dinc it does say it includes android 2.2. So somebody is most likely getting it. I would say that more or less verifies it but of course anything could change.

I also saw that on there web site, (Verizon's that is) if you go to there purchase page and look at the technical specs for the HTC Droid Incredible it says 2.2 Android for the OS.

I de-activated my DInc last week, unhappy with phone call quality. I can connect to the internet through my wi-fi, will I be able to get the update using this connection?.

The 2.2 Froyo update will be sent out Over the Air as a Text Message. If your device can not receive text messages the update will not come through.  Hope this helps!

Those links do show it is coming up though I will not hold my breath on it being tomorrow till I see Verizon post the links to the pdf files themselves on the Incredible site.  It is nice to see light at the end of the tunnel though.

The link I really want to see is the one to the official update files for manual download.

I imagine that it will eventually end up here:

http://www.htc.com/us/support/droid-incredible-verizon/downloads/

However, the HTC support site currently doesn't have any news indicating that the official update is happening soon either and there are no files other than the ones that have been there since April.

Actually, I would like to see instructions that tell us how to avoid data loss like texts, pictures from texts, purchased applications and whatever else is on the phone when we perform the update.

How do we back up the contents of the phone?  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version and have never gotten HTC Sync to work with my phone in any way other than being able to set up the memory card as external storage that I can transfer files to and from.

Thank you.

24c....you wont get the ota update but there are ways you can manually get it. ggiersdo....there are some nice backup apps. you'll have to search though as i don't use any. i "think" there is a pretty nice one called backup pro??? you can copy the sd card to your pc, but i don't know how to back up the apps? i'm just happy i'll be able to download flash once we get 2.2!!! seems to be runnin pretty well for those that have 2.2

If you haven't already, download and install an app from the market called Astro File Manager. Probably one of the most useful free apps you could have on an Android phone. Under "tools" in the menu for Astro, there's a backup manager which will backup all your apps to the card, and you can restore them from there later if need be. Although you also get one shot at restoring them from the market, which is probably the better way to go. But if I remember correctly, I didn't lose any data when updating my Eris from 1.5 to 2.1, but better safe than sorry. You can backup your other data (pics, music, etc) through your PC by copy/paste from the internal memory to the card. As far as your contacts, use Google. It's what the phone was made for and it works seamlessly to back up contacts, calendar events, etc.

I can say I had a D1 when the Froyo update came down and I lost nothing when I let it upgrade.

As another poster said, Astro rocks for backups. I do a a backup and copy the files to my computer for extra protection.

I will do a backup, but I'm not worried about it.

Try doubletwist. Its a free download and all info from your sd card can be backed up there.  Its kind of like Itunes but for windows.
