First Droid Hard Restart- Should I be worried?

I've had my Droid for 1.5 weeks. So far I love it, but today it just died while I was web surfing. It was unresponsive in all ways. I removed the battery, replaced it, rebooted, and now it seems to be doing ok, but I have the "hourglass" circle in the upper left corner as if it's booting up. Should I be worried and replace the unit at Verizon? Got the update this morning. Not sure if software or hardware related. Thanks!

try rebooting it again, or at least 3 more times, and if the hourglass is there then do return it.

but, it is your phone, if you are unhappy, then just exchange it. its your investment.

If it helps any, I have noticed with my G1 that anytime they do an OS update I end up having to wipe the phone and let it install the update like it was out of the box. I dont know if it is the OTA pckage or what, but my phone acts like it doesnt fully install the update until I wipe it. And from other forums I have been on, this behavior is not uncommon.

I would suggest syncing your contacts and then do a factory reset.

Thanks for the repsonses. Actually my phone locked up again while I was at lunch today and I had to do the hard restart again. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the update since I had no problems before this morning. One more hard start today and I'm taking it back to Verizon! :smileysad:

Try the factory reset. It sounds like the update didnt fully install. THe factory reset will install the updated OS like you just pulled it out of the box and give you the tutorial for any new featured.

I have been using an Andriod phone from 1.0 and have had to to a factory reset after every OTA update. Believe me it helps.

And from every forum I have been on, this is fairly common behavior. It has to be the way the OTA is packaged or downloaded, since a good percentage of phones get a corrupted install.

OK. Trying this now, but I'm thinking we shouldn't have to do this for every update. I'm hoping the backup puts all my apps, etc back on!

It is a little annoying. Your apps you will have to re-install. THe market will remember all paid apps and in my experience, the unpaid apps will be there the first time you open the downloads folder for you to re-install. All pictures/music and addon app data is stored on the sd card and not affected.
