With every update big and small things will be different, added, removed, and so one. Have you found any new uses or lost functionality? So what's your take on the new update?
seeing as i just returned my charge and went back to my 2.3 samsung fascinate i guess it didnt do enough to make me keep it... 99% of the time i do my updates and heavy downloading at home via wifi so the 4g lTE is a non issue for me.. and the fascinate actually ran faster and got better scores than the charge on how fast it worked.. both have 1ghz processors same super amoled screen just .3 smaller but 2x as thin and i can live with a 5 megapixel camera and no hdmi out till the droid nexus comes out and drops to like $99 with a 2yr sorry but the charge didnt live up to the hype for me.. at least i was fortunate enough to realize this before i got stuck with it..
Yes, I found one problem. They kept 100 speed list but when you type 2 digit number and look, it didn't work, it went to alphabet searching, I looked blackberry speed dial setting and they only 9 speed dial setting had. Please check type 2 digit number of speed dial and let me know it works or not. My phone didn't work. I called tech support and they give up.... Some how do you know go back to factory setting?
I received the update on Saturday the 3rd. I still get that terrible screech noise when I make/receive calls.
To update the phone was not an issue, it ran fine. The after affects of the update is why I'm on this message board. I am having problems with my messaging, I'm having problems with my phone log, I can't see the caller icons (pictures) in either menu. I have had to factory reset my phone three times at the behest of Verizon, because their techs don't know much, and offered a refuse because they couldn't fix the problems.
I wish you had the option to rollback an update that wasn't worth it, from the user's perspective. No one cares what's happening behind the scenes, if what they use on the regular is broken.

Totally screwed me up big time. I can only get 4g by toggling airplane mode or rebooting and to get 3g, I have to stay in CDMA mode and it still fades in and out. Are you going to give us a way to roll this back? Went through all the obligatory troubleshooting **bleep**. I was doing just fine before!
How can I talk about the pros when the Con is that is doesn't work anymore :smileysad:
...it took a few days after the upgrade for the connection problems to start.
VZW shouldn't be allowed to take away features that existed on the phone when I purchased it. In my case, they have rendered the Droid Charge unusable by removing the 13k vocoder as an option. The call quality is so bad now with either EVRC or EVRC-B that I dread having a phone conversation. I'm only 6 months in to a 2 year contract. What's my recourse? Go through support hell and have them send me a refurb that will certainly have the same issue? Pay full retail for another bug ridden product loaded with bloatware that was rushed out the door?

I don't like the fact that with swype you can no longer highlight a word (simply by tapping twice) that is incorrect and replace it with the options it gave you. Color scheme I like the grey, however brown and grey don't really mix. I've also noticed a scrolling issue when on the web. I try and scroll down or up and it keeps pulling back the opposite way.
Hmm, that's interesting. I had that problem with Froyo and was really irritated with the whole thing (especially when trying to send picture messages). I got the update and that problem was fixed. It's interesting that each phone is having different problems. Makes me think there's a hardware difference from phone to phone or something to that effect, because software changes should be consistent from phone to phone.
It's actually really interesting to hear all the problems everyone is had cuz my phone was just short of unusable before the update and I'm FINALLY happy with it now that I received the update. Sorry to hear you guys are having so many problems.
I actually work for a company that produces a number of different devices and I do understand that but I also know that we design calibration boxes to calibrate out a lot of these kind of things. While the things we calibrate won't all be perfect (or exactly the same), I do know that the calibration boxes we design functionally work the same with the same firmware. Certain readings may be slightly different but overall operation should be the same (especially for a mass produced device that is "essential" in today's society, like a cell phone).
Would you not expect them all to have all basic functions of the phone working? Or do you think it's an end of line testing issue they have? To me, it seems like a very basic requirement that all hardware designs should improve on the previous design or AT LEAST get equal features/performance. Unless I'm missing something.
The odd thing is that the problems people have complained about sound much more like software problems than hardware problems. But if they are rolling out the exact same software to everyone, you would expect it to be the same (using a different version of one IC internally I wouldn't expect to make much of a difference apart from current draw, which would explain different battery discharge rates, or possibly different interdevice connections like bluetooth.
Do you think it's a hardware or software problem based on what you've read/what you know? Or do you think it's one of those things where the update didn't update EVERY file and it's the mismatch of existing files mixed with the core new files?
Pro, for me is that it seems to be a bit faster, things seem a lot more snappy. But not leaps and bounds fast like I read about.
Cons, I don't know but it just feels that the battery is draining way faster now? Also with that new update Verizon thought it would be wise to throw in three more apps of useless junk. I think I got Books now and 2 other Verizon icon things that take up space, resorces and to boot I can not delete them. These new apps just like many of the other ones that came with my Droid like to run in the background and they want updates. Hey VERIZON I don't want them, nor do I want Blockbuster and Kindle and many many other stupid apps you have on this phone.
Metro PCS and Boost really are starting to look good to me. I think I live in an area where I would benifit from either of these companies. And with no contract unlike Verizon, if they stink I will drop them like a hot potato.
I see now why people root their phones, because they are unhappy with the lousy setup that is forced down their throat. People should have choices on somethings on the phone they BUY. They should be able to delete many of the apps that come preinstalled. Or you should be able to take the phone to Verizon and Verizon should be able to remove them. I feel I want money taken off my bill for this reason alone.

Being locked into a two year contract compensates VZW for the subsidized device.
Have found no benefit from the update. I was happy with my Gummycharged Froyo, but Verizon sent me several message a day demanding I update, so I did (resentfully).
Just found out there's a bug, making the LED crash & restart the phones. Maybe the Gingerbread figured out how to boost the current to the LED, without understanding what that would do. See thread at:

Overall the phone is better than ever in most ways. I only have one issue now that I never had under Froyo: Hotboots.
Basically, I can install and run everything just fine. Then eventually I'll reboot and the phone will enter into a hotboot loop. That is where it will boot up, run for a few minutes and load everything, the shut the screen off while the hardware buttons remain lit, dump the data, and boot back up. It doesn't go back to the Samsung lable, it just skips that complete down and up step.
This morning it was running great. I had factory reset to clear the last set of hotboots, spent two days reinstalling apps and data (Comics by Comixology has DRM that won't recognize the 7.5 gb on the SD card when reinstalled, takes forever to download again over wifi), and then had hotboots return after installing ADW Launcher which went away after removing it. Life was good. I could power off and on again without issue.
Then I remembered that I had not reinstalled the Amazon shopping app. I added it, Amazon Mobile, Amazon MP3, Amazon Pricewatch, and Amazon Student. Fine. Rebooted, and now in a hotboot loop.
Managed to uninstall all of them over several boots. Took out battery, sim, and sd card. Reinstalled cards and battery, problem continues. About to factory reset again.
It just seems like some updates confuse the OS and then I see this issue. Next time I will try just the Amazon apps first, and expect no issues. Maddening.
