Frequent Reboot Issue

I have to say that my feelings about the Droid X are mixed. On the one hand, I enjoy many of the features, the battery life is terrible and I began experiencing random reboots while driving home with my new phone from the Verizon store. After about 3 days, I returned to the store to inform them of the problem. I was assured that nothing was wrong with my phone and send packing. A week or so later, I returned to the store stating that the problem continued and I had been disconnected from a phone call by a random reboot. They checked my software version, told me that it could be a corrupted file on the memory card, and sent me packing. A week or so later, I returned to the Verizon store and told them that the problem continued and the frequency was sometimes multiple reboots per hour. I also told them that I had formatted the memory card. I was told to remove the memory card and see if the problem went away, and that I might need a master reset. Then they sent me away, AGAIN. I operated the phone for several days without the memory card and did not witness a reboot so I assumed the problem was with the card. I formatted it again, but the reboot problem persisted. I used the master reset, and the problem persisted. Again I removed the memory card. Next, I called the technical support line and spent about a half an hour on hold, and going through the usual "remove the battery", reinitialize steps before being passed on to a tier 2 support person. Just before the tier 2 support person got on the line, my phone rebooted itself - no memory card installed so that must not be it.
The support person asked me to look inside the battery compartment for a white sticker with red X's, but did not explain why. It took me a minute but I spotted the white background and red x's through a 1/8 inch diameter hole at the bottom left beneath the battery cover. She never did tell me what the significance was. I was then told that Verizon would send me a replacement phone. An email received from Verizon today tells me that a refurbished telephone will replace the brand new one that I bought last month.
My questions are:
How common an issue is the random frequent rebooting? (I have seen one other reference to it in this forum)
What is the significance of the white sticker with red X's?
If I purchased a new phone and reported the defect in the first week, should I settle for a refurbished one?

Wow...I could have written this post a couple months ago...in fact, I probably did. I had the random reboot issues. It got up to about 30 times a day after only one week of having it. I took it back to the store I bought it from and as soon as I handed it over to the guy, the phone rebooted. He said I probably needed a new phone, and he gave me one. No more random reboots! Never found out why it happened. If you've had the phone less than 30 days, you should probably get a new phone. I did.
The battery issue required a LOT more effort. Here is just a short list of what I had to do...and now the battery lasts all day...almost every day.
Extended life battery (actually had to get the first extended battery replaced)
Black wallpaper (actually looks classy!)
Dimmed the display
Added "Battery Booster" (Verizon tech did this)
Charge only with Motorola chargers designed for the Droid X
....a lot more things but I don't want to bore you.....
Give the battery a chance...sometimes it takes several cycles of recharging to improve the battery life. Also, remember, if this is a new phone for you, you might be using it more now than you would normally do after the "newness" wears off.
Good luck!

Thanks for the comments. I would love a 2 day battery, but I can live with 1 day.
I reported my problem to the folks at the VW Store within 3 days after purchasing the phone, and 2 more times in the next 2 weeks and each time I was sent away and told that the phone was fine. I definitely reported the problem in person 3 times within the first 30 days, but it wasn't until the 39th day that Verizon acknowledged the problem and at that point shipped a refurbished phone to me. So I was given a defective device and I reported it mere days after taking possession but I was blown off for over a month - I have to say that I am more disappointed in Verizon customer service than I am in the phone.
I should add that my wife and daughter also purchased a Droid X in December and have not had any similar problems. That's all I want.

That is disappointing. Maybe you can argue your case with someone higher up in customer service. I would think they could bend the 30-day rule in this case, particulary when three people in the same family are using their service. It's only 9 days. The good side is that the refurbished phone will probably work well for you. Although, I do agree that after having a new car for only 39 days, getting a used car to replace it just isn't the same. Good luck.

I recieved my Droid X in July. Has worked fine until Mid November. Now it frequently soft reboots, randomly. Never wet. It started about the same time my bluetooth started to have annoying pauses when sync'd to my Ford Fusion's Sync. Wondered if it was the update or my phone hardware or soft ware. What's my next step?!? It is EXCEPTIONALLY annoying and does not happen to my son's HTC android.

I happen to have two within 5 minutes of home and the difference in customer service between the two is like night and day.
