I used to get my e-mail every 15 min. Now I don't. I noticed that G is not changing with the little arrows. Is this the problem? I can get my emails manually by hitting the circle with arrow icon.

Those Arrows only move up and down when data is being received/sent .. To see if you "lost" your 3G connection, try going to the web browser and borwing the internet. Does THAT work? If not, try toggling your connection to Airplane Mode and then back off of Airplane mode. That usually kick starts the connection -- but honestly, it shouldn't happen that frequently. Getting a poor or deteriated connection (e.g., 1x) would be more common if you're getting a bad signal.
That all being said, if the internet connection *IS* working but you're still not getting email there are a few things you could try.
- Uninstall and reinstall the email app you're using (which is WHAT btw?)
- Remove and re-add the email ACCOUNT via "My Accounts"
