OK folks here is dumb question, What is Gingerbread? And I am not talking about the cookie either..;-)

I see almost everywhere when talking about the Droid. I know there is decal that one can download but I am very happy with my wallpaper and what my phone looks like.

So, please, just a simple, plain, easy to understand explanation what gingerbread is.

Thank you

Just as Froyo is the Google codeword for Android version 2.2, Gingerbread is the Google codeword for Android version 2.3.

It is just a name.

Scott,

Google uses dessert names as code names for the various versions of Android that come out. They also go in alphabetical order. Here's a list of the various code names:

Initial Version = Android 1.1 – Release Date: 2/10/2009
Cupcake = Android 1.5 – Release Date: 4/30/2009
Donut = Android 1.6 – Release Date: 9/15/2009
Eclair = Android 2.0/2.1 – Release Date: 10/26/2009 / 1/12/2010
Froyo = Android 2.2

Gingerbread = Android 2.3

I hope that helps.

Mine works flawlessly as well, fast as hell too!  No complaints here!

Hope Verizon pushes Gingerbread for Droid 1 though, I know support is trailing off for us because they're phasing this phone out.

Don't forget about the ORIGINAL Droid that started it all, Verizon!!

from me having 2.3 since late january on my droid the only feature i saw was on any gingerbread roms.

-It add some 3d effect on certain apps

-bounce on each selection with apps or setting.

-enchance keyboards

-two new live wallpaper nexus s live wallpaper and microbis live wallpaper

-glow gingerbread color each time u go to top or bottom of selection

-support over 20 languages on your device.

-3d apps launcher bounce less from froyo dock on nexus one or nexus s.

-download manager

-enchance music speakers

-internet calling

-nfc

-tv animation

-video calling or voice chat on google talk android 2.3.4 os feature.

-apps2sd on all apps meaning more memory space for your phone unless u download peter alfonso rom

that all i can think of.

their about 20 games apps on android 2.3 os beside that their isnt much on 2.3 os so far.

They might not, most people who got the Droid back in November ~December of 2009 are going to up for upgrade for the summer. That is when the Droid 3 is supposedly going to be dropped. They might, they might not, but I have my doubts about rolling it out for the D1. My D1, which I got back in December of 2009 is having hardware problems now (Screen flickering on and off, read here: http://community.vzw.com/t5/PDA-Smartphone-Devices/Motorola-Droid-A855-Screen-Flickering/td-p/550962) Going to get an upgrade if my dad lets me (I'm a highschool student who doesnt pay for his plan). Im waiting it out until the Droid 3 drops.

I'm with youall, I would love to see gingerbread in my droid 1, the reason I left blackberry was how fast they forgot about the tour.  I do like the droid, but my son has an Iphone w/ AT&/T.  If I change the phone I change to carrier.  You forget about me, I forget about you V.
