Hi. I have a Droid X with 2.3.3 installed via OTA. The update seems to run smooth except that when I scroll though homescreens the transitions are not smooth. They seem choppy at times and are not consistently smooth. I've read other threads and realize that a little "wiggle" in the transitions are normal but thats not what Im talking about. I actually like that. The choppiness happens when I scroll slowly with a slow swipe. Everything else runs like a dream on my phone except that. I've tried a battery pull, System Settings Factory Reset, Boot Screen Factory Reset and Data Wipe, and even unmounted my SD card for awhile. I've also uninstalled all my user apps but this 'bug' still lives! Thanks.

Must say, any "lag" or "choppiness" between scrolling is *usually* app-caused. If the problem is reproduceable, I would boot into SAFE MODE and run that way for a while to see if the problem persists, or goes away. running in that mode will prevent most 3rd party apps from getting loaded. If the problem goes away, time to start looking at which APPs might be causing the issue. I know for a FACT that the Fabebook Widget cause this problem on mine. Took me like 2 weeks to get it figured out. Once I removed the widget, all was very snappy again. Most widgets are running in the background, pulling data, updating te screens, etc -- all which suck the life from the CPU.
to get into Safe Mode:
- Power off phone
- Press and HOLD the Menu button
- Power up phone - continue to HOLD Menu button
takes about 1-2 mins, but will eventually come up and say SAFE MODE in lower left corner. Test for a while. But avoid starting APPS you don't really need. If the problem is gone, you likely have a rogue APP or Widget causing your issue.
To get out of SAFE MODE, just power off/on as usual.
Good luck

I tried uninstalling all my apps. But I still have some glitchy transitions. I'll try uninstalling some updates; app market, you tube, etc...
I jus did a factory reset again too. But to no avail. THe only app I still have is the Adobe Flash Player. Uninstalling that will be my last option.

If a hard reset didn't resolve the update I would say something else going on because my device has ran nothing but smooth. Just for verification, which process did you use to hard reset?

Ok thanks all for your comments. Here's what I tried so far from the beginning.
(Un-rooted Droid X)
1. Reboot with battery pull.
2. Uninstall of suspected apps including launchers and home switchers.
3. Uninstall of all user apps.
4. Uninstall of all previous updates on apps like, vzn mobile, market, google maps, etc...
5. Cache clear - Power off>Power on with menu button pressed>(little android w/ !)>then 'wipe cache partition'.
6. Factory Reset - Power off>Power on with menu button pressed>(little android w/ !)>then 'wipe data/factory reset'.
8. Factory Reset - Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
9. Also un-synced Facebook and gmail contacts.
10. Also did a Factory Reset WITHOUT restore of apps and google syncing.
I've tried all of these but my homescreen still transitions like crap. But the weird thing about it is other launchers work fine and smooth. So...im just gonna have to take my phone in soon and have it checked out.
Now i know GB bugged out

Sounds like you may want to because you have covered a large amount of troubleshooting situations, theres one more thing I can think of, do you have any widgets that may be processor intensive like Tweeter, Facebook or any other apps that access data regularly, I have notice mine lags when I am streaming Pandora Radio from time to time.
Try removing all widgets off the the launcher and disable and messaging or social networking services and see what happens..

@Wildman - exactly what my experieince was as well (as I mentioned in the 2nd post in this thread). The FACEBOOK widget wreaked havoc on my phone. Swiping to Unlock was horribly slow - it took 10 secs for the phone to respond after waking it. After a week+ of troubleshooting, I finally found the widget issue.

Yeah I remember reading a few of your post about this issue but missed the statement on this thread, I do not use any social networking apps but Pandora has a similar issue when used... As for the Slide 2 Unlock I have been using WidgetLocker and haven't noticed any lag there.

...no resolution even with all the things Ive tried. So i called vrzn technical support and they also ran me through some trouble shooting tips including one I havent tried; pulling the battery while the device was still on. That still did not alleviate the problem. They're sending me a new Droid X phone tomorrow! yay. Thanks for all the advice everyone

For Pete's sake, will someone just admit that MAYBE it is a bug, or glitch with Gingerbread?
This forum has turned into the Gingerbread Fan Club Ra Ra Forum. It was a decent update, but it isn't perfect.
(My homescreen scrolling is fine). Maybe, take your phone to a Verizon Store and get it flashed? I read that in the Moto forum.

Blame the apps, but apps get ruled out and no admission. Hard reset completed, still no admission.

No it just that to many times a user figured they covered all troubleshooting and then learned they was overlooking something ot didn't follow something as instructed,I am not saying this is the case this time but it does happen.
Until you can either see the user troubleshoot the device from instructions given, you have to realize that you are working blind, just because you can fix a issue quickly if you had the item in your hand doesn't mean you can instruct a user to do the same thing without being able to see what they user is doing, I spent 45 minutes online instructing a person to resolve a problem that I covered repeatedly only to learn that they was jumping completely over a important step. Once they followed instructions as reported it worked.
So just because people is trying to exclude everything before jumping to blame something that has worked well for other does not make them a Fan Club.

But this is the second update poorly managed by Moto. Blame it on Android and all the apps that "conflict" with the O.S., the Verizon skin on top, etc., but Moto can't get updates right.
From the long delays, to the lack of proper testing before release of the last two updates (what was the purpose of the soak, if you go ahead and release an update because the issue are "minor"), they appear more concerned about just getting an update to market, rather than quality.
Two weeks ago, I was a charter member of both the Moto and Droid X Fan Clubs. Now, I'm debating paying full retail to get away from this phone and Moto.
Yeah, I've even said that no phone is perfect. No manufacturer and no service provider is perfect. Like a bad marriage, maybe it's time to move on.
Again, I didn't intend to offend you.

Knock on wood, I've had good luck with 3 Xs and now the X2, which was the result of a scare with my first original X. I can recall only one occasion where an application caused problems, which I caught quickly as I don't toss a bunch of apps onto the phone all at once.
Despite my red-letter ravings, I really feel for those like yourself that, as far as I can tell, are doing things right and still can't get a resolution to your phone's issues. All I can do is thank my lucky stars and wish you all the best in your search for a solution, whatever that may be.
Good luck,
Geri O

@Droidsw I didn't take the statement personally.. No issues here.
@Dinc - I agree about the difference is software installed makes a big factor,I would guess this is why CS chooses to have user Hard Reset because this usually remove the apps from the equation.

I was referring to the fact that in this forum and in the Moto forum, there is an over abundance of issues with GB.
The same issues known before the release, hence leading me to the conclusion that the soak was just to see if GB was going to set off mass phone crashings, not a true troubleshooting pre-release tool.
Gerio, we have come full circle. The last update is where our paths crossed. The only good thing that came out of that update was a newly formed peer relationship with you.
My phone was not wrecked by GB. However, it's no better, save for the pretty new color scheme. The changes to the UI were nice, but just Moto following the lead of app developers. It's takes the creativity of app developers to motivate Moto to do something like improve the UI? What is Moto doing, their best Apple impersonation, now?
Whether in mobile, or full version of a webpage, my cursor flies all over the page, now. Inputting is such a beat-down, I've cut way down (good for y'all).
The app I use the most for file organization has a conflict with GB. No big deal.
The browser force-closes more since GB. Read the other forum replies. Clearing the cache and hard resets don't help.
Kudos to cody21 and wildman for stepping up and helping users when Verizon can't and Moto dumped this update on us with no support, other than "we are aware of that and we are working on it".
To our fellow X'ers with your impatience, no doubt driving Moto to release an update before the glitches are worked out, I say, give me a phone that functions relatively well and I will be happy with NO updates.
As for the X in general, 200k hits on the thread about rebooting on the X in the Moto forum is a pretty big bull in the china store.
Most of that may be app-related, but Moto and Google must find an answer to make apps and phone O.S.'s have fewer conflicts.
There is no one reason I'm going phone shopping. I have wanted 4G since it became available. I was outspoken against GB and think the hype was just that, hype.
Moto's support in their forum, and I don't envy being their punching bag, has their hands tied and offer little more than patronizing answers.
Perhaps, I should think about going back to a flip phone and getting a tablet?
Enjoyed it here. You guys and gals are great people.

Well we got to remember also that each of our phones are not going to be set up exactly the same an how we use them is going to make the phone work in Different ways an some things are just out of our Hands. But you just have to be Dilijant in your work an sometimes be patient as you can i know i get frustrated when i listning to winamp on my X. an sometimes Ol Birtha will play 4 to 5 hours without a hitch Next time i'll set it up to play as i did before an it'll only play 2 min. an stop or even shut off. So i throw my hands up say what the hooo an then i try again or Go an play my Wii till the steam clears my Head Lol
