GPS and 4G LTE Issues with JB Update

I have a Droid Bionic.

After receiving the Jellybean update yesterday, my GPS and 4G LTE no longer work. I also seem to have diminished wifi connectivity.

I have even done a factory/hard reset. I had to do this with the previous update and after that everything worked fine.

Any suggestions?

Try powering off the phone, removing the battery and SIM card, waiting a couple of minutes, then reassembling the phone and power it back on.

Am also facing a similar issue. I don't have a specific problem with GPS but my mobile data is not working properly.

Since after the JB update if i travel outside of my current city(Minneapolis) i lose mobile data signal.

After talking with verizon support for several hours and searching online found that the issue is because am not able to reset the 'Preferred network mode'.

(During this process i tried pretty much everything possible, even did a complete factory reset)

I believe its currently set to LTE because of this whenever i travel to a city which does not have LTE my mobile data does not toggle to available 4G or 3G.

When i go in to System Settings -> more ->mobile networks, the 'Network Mode' is greyed out and is not editable. The preferred network mode is set to LTE/CDMA

Earlier when i had ICS i didn't have any issue so never really checked if i could toggle between network modes.

But when i had gingerbread i was able to switch between CDMA only and LTE.

I tried using couple of apps available in play store but non worked; guess those are all specific to ICS or specific phone models(Thunderbolt for example)

Can Verizon or Motorola provide a patch for this issue or may be an app?

I am sorry for the data issue that you have been having with the Droid Bionic after the software update. It sounds like you travel outside of Minneapolis quite a bit, and I want to make sure that you are able to use your data wherever you go.

Thanks for doing the factory reset. If there was a software bug, a factory reset would have fixed it. Have we discussed replacement options with you? How long have you had the device? Do you have insurance?

I've been having the same issue. I'm in New York where there's plenty of 4G service, but since Jellybean, I can't get 4G on my Bionic. I've gotten a new SIM, did a factory reset, and tried using the LTE app from Google play.

Still no 4G, and my preferred network option is set to LTE/CDMA and grayed out.

This is very frustrating.

I have tried to factory reset and the battery and sim card pull, still no 4G.. anyone have a solution yet? I am very disapointed... why did i spen the money on a 4G phone when all i have is 3G???

I live in 11691, and I work in 10036. I'm outside much of the time, and travel on the LIRR, sitting right next to my son who has a Galaxy WITH 4G coverage.

I know that I had 4G until I upgraded to JB. If there is any more information you need, please let me know.

I feel your pain right now. I have been trying to find out possible fixes as well. When i had ICS, never a problem with my 4g connection. Whether at work or at home. I purposely was trying to avoid the JB update because i really liked how my phone was running and didn't think I needed to to fix something that wasn't broke. But unfortunately while doing something else, the OTA update popped up and i accidentally clicked it. Worst thing ever. I now no longer have any 4g connection. I tried a factory reset. Nothing. I tried getting a new sim card from verizon. That worked for about 2 weeks, then kicked off and have lost 4g again. I take out the battery and sim card and let sit for 15 minutes+, get a good connection for a few minutes and then it goes away. The most painful thing about all of this is that most of the time I don't even get 3g! I drop between 1x or no service, searching for a network. Just ordered another new sim card from verizon, going to try it again. But my expectations are extremely low. And there is no way to go back to ICS. So i am stuck with a phone that cannot connect to the data plan that i pay for. Insult to injury is that people next to me have a perfect 4g connection, all the time. AND on top of it all I still have an unlimited data plan, so i can't just upgrade my device even though i'm due for an upgrade because I will lose my unlimited. So I either deal with a phone that can't do anything, upgrade at the discounted price and sign a new contract and lose my plan, or pay full price for a phone. Kind of stuck in between several rocks and a hard place. Worst update ever. So angry now my blood is starting to boil

My Bionic stopped seeing the 4G network around the end of June. First it was sporadic then quit altogether. Did a reset, new SIM, cache clear, all helped for a short period then it was back to 3G. Verizon's solution? Send us $$ and we'll send you a new phone.

The solution CANNOT be to send them more money when it's clearly a problem with the update!!

The best action anyone can take at this point is to file a complaint with the FCC, which is what I've done. Please use the form at the link below (you do not have to fill out section 4 since this is a quality of service complaint):

This is the only hope I have of getting Verizon to take corrective actions. They're just stalling at this point it seems, hoping that people will upgrade since few people will be under contract with this phone for much longer.

Thanks for the tip, tikibar1. My Bionic has been draining from 100% to 5% within 3 hours with zero usage randomly over the past few months. This week it stopped receiving 4G connectivity completely. My co-workers all have Verizon with 4G working flawlessly so I know 4G is available in the area. Power cycling didn't help, and I had not thought of dismantling the beast, but thanks to your suggestion of removing the battery, sim, and LTE card everything is back to normal.

Definitely sounds like a software issue. A memory leak somewhere in handling the transition from 3G to 4G where at some point the system completely fails. The airplane mode and LTE app did not help in my case. I did not have to perform a factory reset. Simply removing the aforementioned components and then reassembling did the trick.

Glad to hear that it worked for you. If it happens again, you may just need to reseat/reset the SIM card (turn off the phone, remove the SIM card, wait a few minutes, then reinsert the card, power up the phone, and give it a few minutes to establish a fresh network connection). Continued issues may mean a bad SIM card; you can get it replaced free at your local Corporate Verizon store.

since jb my bionic has had NO 4g and battery life is less than a day. ive been on the phone with Verizon tech multiple times and with no success. ive changed the sim card 2 times and factory reset 2 times. when 3g finally comes in its ok but not great. it took alont time for the ics and jb updates to my phone(3weeks ago) and every since its been awful. all Verizon tech wants is for me to upgrade to a new phone and loose my unlimited data. I like my phone and they say its old and is the cause. they will not admit its the update that screwed it up which was fine before it did jb. im not happy with there sorry customer service and DO NOT WANT ANOTHER PHONE RIGHT NOW AND WILL NOT LOOSE THE UNLIMITED DATA BECAUSE THERE FRIGGIN UPDATE. any ideas on what to do? im gonna call then AGAIN TOMORROW.= (removed) OFF

Since you have already done factory resets and issues continue, I would recommend exploring replacement options. Well I typed out a long reply but lost it due to my phone dropping 4g to no bars. So I'll try this again. I should not have to upgrade and go under another contract due to an update that was sent to my phone VIA Verizon that has since caused my phone to not work like it did the few minutes before the update was performed. Its not my place I feel to have to fix something that was not broken until I did YOUR update. I have did everything to try to fix this phone to no success and just with Verizon saying that I need to upgrade that this phone is old and can't handle the network. I call BS. Other than bad battery life my wife's phone works fine. I paid the extra money to not have a two year contract and not now all I hear from you is upgrade. Warranty should not be an issue because your software screwed it up. Not the phone just up and quite. It have good 4g before it shutdown to install and then was NADA. My battery life is horrible and before was 1.5 to 2 days on a charge now maybe 8hrs. It seems that Verizon doesn't care about anyone having trouble with these phone and its more than just a few months phones its a lot. I have unlimited data and that's what Verizon is trying to get me out of this Im for sure. The service is very bad that I'm getting from Verizon and will never recommend Verizon to anyone and will tell everyone has of this experience.

I have contacted Motorola. Verizon blames motorola , Motorola blames Google and Verizon. I've not talked to Google but I'd say they would blame Motorola and Verizon. I blame all three but the end supplier being Verizon should take care of the end user being me but will not do anything but talk about upgrades and warranty and how sorry there q-cards are for my troubles with my phone. The service is so bad it makes sprint look like an alter boy. I am a store owner and would never treat a customer like this.
