Get X Instead of Incredible?

I ordered a Droid Incredible a month ago, and it's supposed to finally ship this Saturday. Now, with the impending release of the X, I'm highly tempted to cancel my Incredible order in favor of an X. I have a few questions before I make the decision, however.

First, what is Verizon's policy on refunding canceled orders? My card has already been charged for the Incredible, and I need that money back to be able to afford the X. If I cancel today, will I have the money back by Thursday, or will they ship me a check that arrives n weeks later?

Second, is the X likely to have a crazy backorder like the Incredible? I want to say no because it has a different manufacturer and more foresight, but I don't want to take the risk of having to wait another month for my new phone.

Third, how much will the X cost with a new every two? The Incredible cost me $99, but I keep seeing the X priced at $199. This is the same price I keep seeing for the Incredible as well (and what I expected to pay until I actually made the purchase). Will the X cost me $199 or just $99?

Thank you!

Allen

You can read all about the return policy here--->Verizon Return Policy

I have read in places that there shouldn't be a back order. Droid X will be $199 at 2yr contract.

I'm in the same boat as you, my Incredible is supposed to ship on Friday or Sat.  I've talked to several VZW employees, the best action is to call at 12:01am on the 15th and request that your order be changed from a Droid Incredible to the Droid X.

As for your question about refunds, an employee I spoke to told me it can take anywhere from 3-5 days before the refund hits my bank account.  So I will be changing my order on the 15th.

Edit:  the Droid Incredible list price is $299 minus $100 rebate same as Droid X, you likely had a $100 phone upgrade credit. So there should be no price difference.

You can do this, all you have to do is call verizon and tell them to cancel the order and get the droid x. There are no restocking fees if the phone has not shipped. You need to HURRY and do it ASAP!

My manager was in the same position. He said that Verizon customer service told him that all he had to do was refuse delivery of the Incredible.

To throw a wrench in everything, my Droid Incredible shipped earlier than expected. I spoke to some VZW employees, and their advice was to accept the package and exchange the Incredible for the X in the store. A guy at know who works at the local store said he's confident he'll have one for me tomorrow. My Incredible should arrive today, and I'll take it to the store tomorrow after work to make the exchange. According to an employee, the restocking fee does not apply to Droid Incredibles as of 6/24/2010. I'll still have to pay for the $100 rebate (and get it back in the mail in a few weeks), though.

Don't unpack the incredible or you will be charged the restocking fee.

I didn't unpack it. Heck, I didn't even take the Incredible's box out of the FedEx box. They charged the restocking fee anyway, though. Rather than having to pay it, they took the $35 out of the refund to my account for the Incredible, but I'm still going to try to contest it if I can. The employee encouraged me to do so, but he said it was out of his hands. I'd have to contact someone over the phone.

In other news, the Droid X is amazing. :smileysurprised:

Definitely contest that $35 restocking fee.  VZW announced this fee would not apply to those wishing to change their order to the Droid X.

I wasn't charged when I cancelled.

I canceled my order, but it shipped within an hour of the cancelation. Instead of refusing the package, I just exchanged it in the store. What would be the best way to contest it? Their phone-based customer service has been hit-and-miss with me. It would help if I could point them somewhere official that explains the policy regarding the Incredible's restocking fee. I've seen it in a lot of blogs, but I can't find it anywhere on Verizon's website.

Well after a little reading, it might hit you because you accepted the shipment.  I remember a CSR telling me I needed to refuse shipment to assure no $35 charge...  I would use the angle that you canceled the order but it shipped anyways, and you were afraid you would not get the credit back in time to order the Droid X if you refused the shipment.

That's exactly why I didn't refuse. If I waited on the package to return to Verizon and for Verizon to complete all the paperwork needed for a cancelation, there's no telling whether any X's would be left. I'll call them sometime this weekend. I'll post the results here when I know something for sure.
