Getting unwanted messages (VZWNMN:5) from Verizon and Verizon is not able to stop them.

I am getting messages from 6250 number and the content is VZWNMN:5 (OR) VZWNMN:11 (OR) VZWNMN:37. In a day I get around 25 messages.I have reported the issue on Jan 21st, 2012 and talked to atleast 7 customer reps, 5 tech support, 3 engineers & 4 managers. Spent atleast 10 - 12 hours on the phone with Verizon and still the case is still open.

Since Customer support is not able to resolve the issue, they opened a ticket with Engineering team ten days back. So called after few days to check the status and the ticket was closed with status as "Resolved". But it was not so they reopened the ticket again and it's been 6 days now. The person who opened the ticket said will follow up with me on last Saturday. But no answer from him so emailed him on Monday and the response received was that he will call on Tuesday. Till now no answer. I am totally frustated with service and no where to go. Don't know whom to contact.

Really appreciate if someone can suggest how to handle this situation.

Did you recently switch from a feature phone to the Droid Charge?

Those messages look similar to the OZ messages. The function of the messages is to inform you of new emails on a feature phone.

Please reply back with more information.

I have this phone for last 9 months. VZW have put a stop on premium messages and also some settings on Backup Assistant. Sent from my Droid Charge on Verizon 4G LTE

not sure, but i sounds like you have setting to deliver you a text message each time you get an e-mail or some other type of notification.

have you (or are you willing to) tried a factory reset?

I am experiencing this same issue. Just started (for the second time) last night and I've received 25 messages in 14 hours. The last time, I was told to turn off a feature on my Verizon settings and my phone ended up freezing. I had to do a factory reset and it was a nightmare.

I can't begin to imagine why this would start out of nowhere yesterday. I made no changes or anything. It is driving me batty.

I have been getting these messages since last night as well. I used to have a droid 2 and changed my phone in November 2011. Do I lose all my data on the phone if I do a factory reset? If so, I am not willing to go through that. Did anyone take the phone to the Verizon store?

A factory reset takes you back to the way the phone arrived ... all your personal data and the apps you've added are lost. I am thinking about going to verizon store tomorrow b/c this is nuts. I've had 14 more text messages.

Hello.. I'm not sure how much help I will be since I don't have a Droid, BUT.. I experienced this very same issue a while back. And had the same run around with VZW customer support.. FINALLY.. i answered back to one of the text messages, it was another lady trying to reach her relative with the same first name as mine. After speaking with her for a while, I came to a conclusion these messages all started after I signed up for a option under the MY VERIZON (my account). The option was the place where you can send and receive text messages online from your MY VERIZON profile. Some how my name and number were being published into some sort of data base thing.. I had also received a premium text message that cost me $10 (im on prepaid, but had extra money in my account for ringtones & ringback tones, ect). After numerous calls to customer service about the continued text messages, they put a block on my account for receiving text messages, also there is a place in the MY VERIZON profile where the text messaging is done at to block up to, i think, 15 numbers. Well I filled every slot up with the numbers that were texting me, then started receiving probably another 50 more texts a day. It was sooo annoying!!! Then after customer service tried everything they could think of to stop the texts from continuing, I ended up having to change my phone number, something I did NOT want to do.. but it stopped the problem and it has not happened again... BUT i didn't sign up for that online text messaging option on MY VERIZON account this time.

I've had my Samsung Stratosphere for about 5 months. This morning at 4:30am, I received the VZWNMN text from 6520. Since then, I've received the same message another 10 times. I have not downloaded any new apps recently, have not changed any settings on my phone, and I have never received these messages before. I spoke with my good friend who sold me the phone. He had never heard of this issue. I told him I'd found a lot of forum posts about it, he said he would check into it. If he gets any answers I will come back and share with the class :smileyhappy:

I also have a samsung stratosphere and started getting text messages in the middle of the night. Mine is related to yahoo mail (although I've had yahoo mail on my phone since Christmas). Everytime I get a new email in yahoo, I get a text message with how many new emails I have in my inbox VZWNMN:1, VZWNMN:2, etc. I did not change ANY settings for anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling yahoo mobile and it still happens. I've tried to change different sync settings and it still happens. I can't block the messages because they are coming from verizon and only have the 4 digit number. I'm glad to hear others are having the same issue because I've been working on it ALL day!!! The only thing I can think is that I think there was an update for yahoo mobil yesterday that I may have downloaded and that might of changed something or be a bug, but I can't figure out what it is!!!

I've had 14 of the msgs today on my Strato and they are still coming in. To my knowledge I haven't changed any of the things in Settings.

From what I'm reading this is coming from Verizon.

I've seen a couple of comments posted on how to stop them but why doesn't Verizon shut it off instead of making all the customers do something? It doesn't seem to serve any usefull purpose.

i believe this is related to last night push of "backup assistant plus" to stratospheres, but if you go into your verizon account and delete it from your phone, you will lose your email functionality. (thats what happened to me) I have reactivated backup assistant plus in hopes of restoring my email and hope verizon will fix the texting issue from their end

I also have a Stratosphere and started having this problem as of about 3am this morning. I took my phone to the Verizon store this morning and showed them the text messages, and they were not yet aware of the problem. They called tech support and were told "We're aware of the issue, and we're working on it." I called tech support myself again this evening at 10pm and was told the same thing - "We're working on it." Hopefully, they'll figure it out and get it fixed soon. In the meantime, I'll keep deleting the annoying texts.

Exact same thing with me - these 6250 messages on my Stratosphere started at 6 am yesterday. No clue why and I too have not made any changes nor downloaded anything. I am at a loss.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere and I started getting the same annoying texts early yesterday morning and they continued throughout the entire day. I didn't have any luck with VZW customer service so I just googled it and found the solution. At first I was skeptical that it would work since I hadn't donwloading anything new to my device, however, after following the steps below I have not received anymore of those annoying and pointless text messages.... hope this helps :smileyhappy:

1. Login to your Verizon account.
2. Click on “Account” at the top and then “Change Features” from the bottom right.
3. Select the device you would like to remove the service from.
4. Then scroll down until you find “Contact Management” and click “Remove.”

Can you be more detailed in how to stop these unwanted msgs from Verizon for the less informed.

What do you mean by login to you Verizon account. Where? on the computer or the phone?

where do you find Account? I don't see it anywhere on the phone or in the computer

however from My Verizon on the phone i see "change features" on the bottom left but it does not contain anything

about Contact Management.

THEY STOPPED!!! I have not gotten any text messages since last night. Hopefully it's been fixed.

ambs929, did you execute the suggested stop action or did the txt just stop.

I'm reluctant to invoke the suggestion action as Verizon may implement something later on that utilizes the contact management and i won't get the information.

They just stopped. I didn't do anything. Maybe it's being fixed by area? No idea why or how it stopped, just very thankful it did (and that it stays that way!). I live in the chicago area.

This is a network wide issue and doesn't have anything to do with the Stratosphere... I have a Droid X and Thunderbolt and both has received these text... After Blacklisting the number in Handcent I haven't had anymore of these text message.

According to Customer Service, Verizon is "working on the towers" and the texts should stop by tomorrow. I don't know if I believe that answer; we'll have to see. Getting texts all through the night is just unacceptable...and they certainly aren't "working on the towers" at 3:30 a.m. Luckily I have unlimited texting, but am still unhappy about the situation.

I followed instructions to remove "Contact Manager" from my phone. The texts slowed down. But as it did last time, this stopped my email from being pushed to my phone. It also stopped contact 7 calendar synch. So I had to empty my cache and data and reenter all of my email accounts. I just logged on to the Verizon website and checked - Contact Manager is BACK. So there's a connection, but not one we can easily utilize.

The tweets have stopped. I wonder if it has something to do with a full cache regardless of phone model?

I hope Verizon publishes the answer.

I also had this problem, recieved 32 texts in a row and Verizon said to forward it to 7726, this is a spam report and they would stop. I did this and no it did not stop. I recieved a text back from Verizon saying they could not figure out who was spamming me and to call Verizon back so I did. They then said I was getting these texts everytime I recieved an email from my yahoo account and walked me through the steps online to change a setting (described in an above message) to turn this off and it workes. BUT.....now my yahoo email does not work AT ALL on my cell (I have a Samsung Stratosphere) and honestly I am getting sick of the BS dealing with yahoo email on the cell. I would like to just delete yahoo email period from this cell but cant figure it out, does anyone know how????

Someone in the Chicago area reported they stopped receiving the txt msgs for each email. I haven't had any since this morning so perhaps they have taken care of the problem in the Ohio Mich area.

As I mentioned above Verizon is doing a very poor job of communicating this problem internally. Their cust serv is not addressing the problem by telling people they don't know whats wrong and giving them alternatives that don't work or cause other problems. Somebody at Verizon is trying to cover their behind.

I got these a few months ago and then again yesterday. I think it is because the text messaging is to full and it can't new messages and sends the VZWMN. I deleted about half of the history's from my text and especially the ones where I had sent photos and were still in my text history. After I deleted about half my of my old texts I stopped getting the VZWMN or the 6250 messages.

I got these unwanted texts every few minutes all night long starting on the 16th. I called cust. service 3 times and finally got them blocked. I was told it was a problem with Stratosphere phones. The first time I called the rep said "well, I see that you have unlimited text messaging, so you won't be charged for any of these" REALLY?? Anyway, I was glad when they finally got it stopped. I have to say, customer service so far has been really good, but I've had a few significant problems with this particular phone, and I've only had it 4 months. Have had to call them 6 times already.

Glad they resolved it for you but I really dont get how they are referencing it to just one device because users with other devices has reported the same issue..

I unblocked the number and seen the text still on my Thunderbolt so I blacklist the number again and all is quite again.. Hope they resolve this soon.. Care to share what the rep did to resolve your situation..

I'm not exactly sure what was done, but it was some sort of block. The first

time they supposedly blocked it, it didn't work, but whatever they did last

night seems to have taken care of it. The rep I talked to said Verizon wasn't

sure what was causing the problem. That's nice to know! Hope your problem is

gone for good.

I recently upgraded to a DROID RAZR MAXX and shortly after getting it, it got broken. When I got a replacement & installed "Go SMS" (for text messaging) I began receiving these annoying messages from 6250 "VZWNMN:#".

After plenty of google searching, experimentation, and then talking to customer service, I believe I can assert with confidence what is happening. Let me tell you, it is disturbing!

Verizon is a business, and they want your money, but they also want your contacts too! Our world today is one of games with legal TOS (Terms of service) tied to or attached to yet more TOS >... this is wherein lies the rub of discomfort.

Verizon can benefit if they store your phones data online as well as on your phone. When you have to hard reset with tech support, or you lose a device, or upgrade in 22 months, etc, they can conveniently offer you a simple way to import your contacts to your new or reset device. Its a benefit to both you and Verizon - it saves you both time and money. Verizon currently calls this service "Backup assistant plus", "Backup Assistant +", "sync and connect" etc. This is the core of your issue.

Backup Assistant/sync & connect has a TOS. You must accept this TOS to "fully use the features it offers", and it's FREE! YAY!!! ... Nope, not yay, Why? Because Verizon has implemented technology the way IT wants to, not necessarily the way YOU want to. This includes a scheme where, in the past few years Verizon has "forcibly" implemented Backup Assistant on your devices and done so in a manner making removal or opting out nearly impossible.

My kids Cosmos Touch was the first time I saw this insane idiocy. It would kill their battery begging them to set it up. And, you have to be 13 years old or older to accept it, which they are not, and you have to accept it to disable it!

It turns out this is true for my RAZOR MAXX as well. Even though I specifically chose not to accept the TOS for backup assistant plus my phone still configured my email accounts up on verizonwireless' webserver without my permission or consent. They did this as a convenience for their "data push" services. Their default email application uses their web servers to check your mail and notify you via their own custom "hidden" SMS message to your phone. Their default application UNDERSTANDS the 6250 message. Custom SMS/message applications DO NOT. This is their message to say, hey, "you've got mail" and this is how many #.

I found this to be very uncouth. I'm not fond of cloud computing, facebook, and general small invasions of privacy in every aspect of my life, and I'm certainly more annoyed when it happens without my knowledge by someone I pay money to!

So..... diatribe over... this is how to solve it:

Log onto Verizonwireless
Go to "Backup Asssitant" (or whatever verizon is calling it when you read this)
Accept the TOS, [EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO] This is the most unacceptable part VERIZON!
Delete all Mail accounts and Contacts listed (Presuming you don't want Verizon to store this on their servers)
Once all accounts are gone, go to your DEVICES, then features/services and look for the wonderful FREE SYNC/BACKUP service. ... REMOVE IT.
Call Verizon and tell your tech support rep you want them to log a complaint. We need to let Verizon know that while we may like or benefit from these features, they need to let us decide and provide full disclosure. Additionally they should provide full API's to developers who provide apps for their devices so that they can provide a reliable product to their user base.
Experiment and use an alternative EMAIL application(s) from the market or other sources and avoid the stock Verizon embedded application on your device.

hi, I been receiving messages from vzw for about a week now, it say from 6250 and the subject says vzwpin:xxxxxx (some numbers) talked to vzw support and they couldn't fixit they sent me to a vzw store and they said it was something about backup assistan plus, they closed it but I still receive those freaking messages, now I don't know what to do, I'm tired of these messages because I'm receiving them at middle of the night, any idea on how to stop them?

This was an easy fix for me. I opened the Backup Assistant application and noticed that I have 3 pending (which was same as the count after VZWMNT). I clicked on the "Sync Now" which made the text messages stop right away.

I haven't read every single post. If my suggestion was previously mentioned, my bad.

Try logging in to your MyVZW account and do a feature change on your line.
Disable all Backup Assistant related features, including the newest email feature (which is actually listed separately from the other "Cloud" Backup Assistant features...it's listed under its own special header of "Email Setup").

The ONLY thing that worked was installing handcent, blacklisting the number by long-pressing the text conversation, and disabling the standard messaging application that comes with the phone. I hate that I had to go this route and not use the standard messaging application but not getting the 50 messages per day (including ones sent in the middle of the night) is worth it!

Handcent works everytime but I am surprised that you are still having this issue because its been 2 months without any reports so I figured this was resolved.. I stop using Handcent aqnd havent had any issues like this anymore.
