Gingerbread 2.3.5 for a stock Charge phone

Check out this site.  They seem to have GB 2.3.5 for a stock Charge phone that is not tooted.  It even looked like you could load it using the official Samsung flash utility.  I don't know enough to really judge it completely.  What do you folks think?

They even have Froyo so, if you want to you can go back to it.

When you hear about people rooting/rom'ing leaked builds on their phones, that's what they are talking about.  That's P3Droid's site.

Bluevolume,

When I read the info on P3Droid's site it sure looked like it is 2.3.5 as it is today (11/11/2011).  It does not reuire tooting!  I wonder if someone loaded it, could they reload the official 2.3.8 or 9 when it is finally released next June or July, 2012.

I wonder about this, as an interim fix, because the phone would NOT be tooted and 2.3.5 would have been loaded using the official Samsung flash utility.  A manual install.

Or, on the other hand, it also looks like a person could easily go back to the original factory Froyo 2.2.1 and then load the official version of Gingerbread if they choose to do that.

that is correct and incorrect at the same time.  When the official comes out you will be under warranty again, and you can always "upgrade" to that one.  It's one of those if it breaks your phone when we are not ready to support it then that's on your dime disclaimers.

There's no guarantee this will actually be pushed out. A similar thing happened with a leak for the Thunderbolt and it got pulled at the last minute. Unless you know how to flash back with Odin, I'd wait until Verizon actually announces it.

PJBC284,

I'm going to wait too.  It's just that some folks here are really hurting and Verizon isn't helping them much.

Similar to flashing on a Motorola. I can flash to 2.2 Froyo, 2.3.3 GB and 2.3.4 without voiding my warrenty as that is what Verizon/The Manufacturer do to a phone before they send it out as a LNR. I believe it's used for if you were to 'brick' your phone and could do nothing but get into 'manual mode.' Don't know how its ran for Samsung...I've tried learning myself but as someone above stated you need to use a 3rd party program called Odin where as on my Motorola I have a program on my laptop called an RSD Lite made by Motorola so it seems more official for that matter. I think 'tooting' would be considered upgrading your build to somthing that hasnt been OTA or about to be OTA and known on sites. Like the previous version for the Charge before EE4 (whatever that was) can be flashed back to your phone straight from home without voiding your warrenty, if I'm wrong correct me. But this is all just what I've learned recently with my X2. I updated my X2 to 2.3.4 myself because I was tired of waiting for the OTA to reach me a few days after it was posted on VZW website. Thankful for the flashing program I have put on my laptop for if I want to downgrade or upgrade, I have the choice...with no warrenty stress.

CHARGE PHONE WARRANTY:  So many folks here want to keep their one year warranty and I am one of them.  On the other hand, I have started to wonder what is our warranty coverage?

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that both a warranty claim that the phone is broken or a claim for a lost phone (if you have insurance coverage for lost phones) gets you a phone someone else returned to Verizon and Verizon re flashed the OS.

In other words, it appears to me that you do NOT get a brand NEW phone in either case.  Is that so?  Does anyone know?

JerryF you are correct. Since my first time I called to replace my Droid X, My next one was yes...used...refurbished...LRN(like new replacement) I had 3 more defective DX's until they offered me a swap out of any of the better 3G phones as well as my girlfriends DX. I got the X2 as you see and she got the HTC Droid Incredible 2. I have had to replace a couple few of these X2's over defects as well but my girl has had NO problems with her Inc. 2. So we both still have a device that was previously own but we can't do anything about it as I'm sure the same goes for a Droid Charge...a LNR would 100% guaranteed pre-owned device. Sad since me and my girl paid $430 to walk out of the VZW store back in march with our Droid X's. I don't want to know the amount of money most the Charge owners put into getting it in the store and walking out! I paid $286 for my Charge on Ebay, so I can only imagine what people have paid to get this device when it first came out on a new contract...ALOT! I would truly be disappointed to know I'm getting a used device after sending off a BRAND NEW Charge I had just bought. Trust me...I was mad about my DX being replaced with a used knowing mine was ONLY mine and brand new out the box. Until they offered a swap out...I'm fine with that...even though I still feel robbed. I've had issues with all three phones I have activated through verizon. Charge being the worst. (and its the newest device I own.) I put the regular Droid X over the Charge. It needs the update...bottom line. There is only more dis-satisfied customers to come if this device is bought.

Ripcharge,

Try this.  It's easy and if it does NOT work you have not lost anything except maybe an hour of your time.

Plug your phone into the 110 volt 1 amp charger that came with your phone.  Go to bed.  Leave it plugged in overnight.

Next morning:  leave the phone plugged into the charger and use your phone while the charger in still plugged in.  Run all those things that are failing in your phone to see if they now work okay with a fully charged battery and with the 110 volt 1 amp charger plugged into the phone.

If any of your phones problems now work okay, GET A NEW BATTERY!!!

If there is no change it's not the battery so take a hammer and beat your phone into 1000 pieces...Just kidding here.

If you have time to do this please let us know your results.

Alright. Sounds fair enough...I'll take it. I got 3 batteries. 2 being new and one that came with it. (used obviously if it was from ebay) but I will try with the battery it came with first. I'll then try a new one and let you know the outcome.

EP4P Gingerbread 2.3.6 is already out and I've already got it running on my phone.  Runs great after I removed all the pre-loaded Verizon crap with Titanium Backup.  Plus with iMoseyOn's custom kernel I have this thing running absolutely smooth.  No hesitation, just a purely enjoyable experience.

Flashing a leak is not the same as it being publically available. Most people don't want to void their warrenties.

meh.  The voided warranty argument is pretty much moot as you can easily get back to stock if something goes wonky.  Samsung is probably one of the hardest devices to brick.
