Gingerbread Changes / Issues

I have noticed three changes to my Droid X since the Gingerbread update that have caused some issues.

1.  The backlight on the keys do not work consistently.  If they are pressed, the light does not come on.  I have found that if I rotate the phone, they seem to come on.  According to some searching, this was a Froyo problem as well but I had never experienced it before Gingerbread.

2.  I have several personalized notification sounds.  About 4 of the sounds were in WAV format.  Once Gingerbread was loaded, they would no longer work properly.  I had to convert each one of them to MP3

3.  If you go to Contacts...Press Menu key...Press More...Press Settings...Press Contact storage, the default account to store new contacts is "Backup Assistant".  I use my Google account, so this change would have caused me significant issues.

If I have duplicated another post I am sorry.  I looked around but did not see these issues.

Hi bharath23,

I am happy to hear that you are overall pleased with the Gingerbread update.  We are aware of the issue with the LED notifications and are working on a resolution.  Unfortunately, at this time the release date of the resolution has yet to be communicated.

Your patience is greatly appreciated,

This happens to some users that updated to GB from Froyo without a wipe and there really hasnt been a solution but wipe data or hard reset, both of these options will loose personal settings and device need to be reconfigured.

WAV files are not the most optimized audio format and this is why a number of developers lean towards the mp3 format because they are also smaller in size also.

3.  If you go to Contacts...Press Menu key...Press More...Press Settings...Press Contact storage, the default account to store new contacts is "Backup Assistant".  I use my Google account, so this change would have caused me significant issues.

Try clearing the dialers default setting, this option is normally a option the first time you add a contact to the contact list...  I never set the defult because I love tt allows me to sync with Yahoo, gMaol and my RR accounts in one setting.

The contact issue is a new setting. Or atleast one I had never seen.

I dont believe this is a bug because all apps these days have removed the support for wav files, there is a few apps out there that still uses them but Android normally use qcp or mp3...  The programers job is to optimize a devices performance and wav files require to much to cache and store...  But you have your veiw but the developer may viewed this diffrently.

Did you post to get help, or post to argue?

Either that, or a change they just didn't tell you about.

That would be nice if that is how programming worked....  Heres the link to Android support page http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html , notice the special notes next to WAV (rates up to limit of hardware).  I am just pointing out the facts.

PCM/WAVE 8- and 16-bit linear PCM (rates up to limit of hardware)WAVE (.wav)

I work in software developement and I am not a rookie to this game, but you appear to be one that want to complain and I am not up to that game.....  Hope you resolve your bug....   By the way have you thought to refilter the file because if they are encoded in a 24 bit encryption this could be why the worked on one os and not others..

Just a thought...  Good day.

I am really starting to think the button issue is do to the light sensor, I think it is suppose to come on in curtian levels of light....   I noticed if I have the phone sitting on its dock which is located directly under lamp the lights on buttons do not come on when I wake phone but when I oull it out of m pocket and wake it up it seems to work.

This is a guess but from what I seen so far it seems like a possible explaination....  Ill have to experiment more to know for sure.

I am almost 100% certain the buttons lighting up is an ambient light issue.

When your phone screen is dark, hold the phone under a lamp with plenty of light. Push the power button to activate the screen and the physical buttons will not light up.   Now perform the same test while using your free hand to cover the light sensor (the area to the left and right of the ear speaker thus simulating a dark room) and you will find that the physical buttons now light up.

I like the upgrade.  Still leaning about many of the changes though....

Glad to see you have came to the same conclusion..  This hasn't bothered me but it appears we are on the same page on a explanation.

Anyone have a conclusion as to why the LED light isn't working?

Just updated mine an hour ago or so, and now I get no blinking light for email, texts, calls, anything.

I did get one light when I received a text, because I happened to be looking at the phone when I received it, and the light only flashed once, and did not keep flashing at intervals like normal. It does not flash at all for emails.

Some people have had success by uninstallling the APP, clearing the Cache for the APP, or generally Clearing all Cache for the phone.   This issue came up during testing - but not everyone had the problem. ( e.g., Mine works fine for both  yahoo email  & gmail & text msgs).

Thanks! This worked for my Yahoo email (clearing the Cache) and it got one more flashing light for my texts (I'm using Handcent - I'm assuming that is what's causing the problem here) but it still doesn't continue to flash. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling

EDIT. Just as I suspected. I used the stock texting app and the notifications work just fine. Now just to figure out how to get Handcent to work.

Someone over on the other forum suggested that if you get a POP-UP in Handcent and the screen is not Locked/blank, that the LED does appear for a second but goes away.  They suggest you try changing your Handcent settings to NOT "pop-up", or "display when screen locked", etc...   check your "Pop-up" settings.

I don't have the pop-up option enabled. I also double checked my settings on the stock app and made sure the 2 apps aren't contradicting eachother, and they aren't.

New Handcent update in the market, I noticed under their change log "Fix LED support for Droidx 2.3.3 update"
