Gingerbread - Six Reasons Why I Wish I Didn't Upgrade...

My phone has actually lost functionality after upgrading to Gingerbread.
Hopefully someone else can confirm these issues I've run across:
#1 - Previously I was able to configure email notifications to be silent with the only notification being the flashing LED. Now it appears that I have to select a ringtone. I have three Exchange Activesync accounts setup along with my Gmail account, I'd rather not have my phone dinging all day with each new email. (Am I just missing something here?)
#2 - When using the keyboard with email or text messaging, I can hold down the period key to bring up the alternate characters but cannot select any from the bottom row.
#3 - Exchange Activesync intermittantly fails with an "Invalid Server Certificate" error however hitting "Retry" usually seems to then sync again. This is with both an Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 environment and with two different certificate CAs.
#4 - Google Reader now hangs all the time to the point that it's unusable. After popping in and out of a few RSS feeds, I get the little loading wheel and it seems to spin forever.
#5 - Navigation within Google Maps has been buggy and locked up multiple times. Several times it seems to have occurred when switching from portrait to landscape; the screen becomes distorted and hangs for about 15 seconds or so.
#6 - Battery life is noticable decreased.

To shut off notification sound, tap menu key>Settings>Sound>Volume and pull the bar all the way to the left. This will silent the sound. Sorry I can't help you with the other problems.

I'm assuming that would turn off the volume for text message notifications though right?
Previously I had sound for text message notifications and other notifications but emails did not have an audio notification.

#1 You can still have a silent ringtone for email notifications. Just get into the gmail settings, scroll to notifications and select "select ringtone". At the top of the options is "silent".
#6 Sorry to hear that. I don't know what to recommend besides being sure to turn off all radios when not in use. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS...I don't want to rub anything in, but I have been seeing 17-18 hours of off charger and 30-40 percent left.
Best of luck!

Doesn't seem to work for my Activesync accounts.
I went to the settings within the Activesync account:
- Notifications / Status Bar is checked
- Ringtone is set to "silent"
- Vibrate is unchecked
When I send a test email to that account, I get an audio alert.

I can set the notification to silent and still get the notification and missed light for message.
#2 - When using the keyboard with email or text messaging, I can hold down the period key to bring up the alternate characters but cannot select any from the bottom row.
This works but you have to ring finger down below the period to get the lower list to highlight and selesct...
#3 - Exchange Activesync intermittantly fails with an "Invalid Server Certificate" error however hitting "Retry" usually seems to then sync again. This is with both an Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 environment and with two different certificate CAs.
I have notic this if I activated the Data Saver option under the battery setting because it disconnects the data connect when device is sleep except when it is set to sync then it comes up for a minute ad then shut down data when done..
#4 - Google Reader now hangs all the time to the point that it's unusable. After popping in and out of a few RSS feeds, I get the little loading wheel and it seems to spin forever.
No responce on this because I really dont use Google Reader, maybe someone else has answer here.
#5 - Navigation within Google Maps has been buggy and locked up multiple times. Several times it seems to have occurred when switching from portrait to landscape; the screen becomes distorted and hangs for about 15 seconds or so.
Never seen this on my device and I use Navigation daily..
#6 - Battery life is noticable decreased.
I get 24 Hours easily with extended battery which is a improvement from what I usually had with Froyo.. But I also use Juice Defender so I may have a advantage...
Im sorry to hear you are having so many issues but I have been loving GB on my device..

I'd love to know what I'm doing wrong.
Check out this video example of the issues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZrY2_H4J5g
- You can see where I'm trying to touch the bottom row of characters and I can't.
- You can see the certificate error (which never occurred previously and doesn't happen on all Activesync accounts at all times). Data Saver should not impact Activesync push email notifications.
- You can hear where after hitting retry to the certificate error and syncing, I get an audio notification for my email.
I'm only a couple days in on this update but these are quite frustrating when you depend on your phone for work emails.

1. Ok what I can see you are doing diffrent on keyboard, after you open menu you go up to the option to secect but it seems that the option is like a mobile mouse.... Try sliding your finger down a bit after menu comes up and it should work...
2. As for the email that looked like that may be Googles accounts, I have seen that from time to time after I log into my email from a desktop, I actually had that issue in Froyo but havent seen it on GB...

#1 - I'm doing what I've done for the last year. I see if I press my finger all the way to the bottom it now works but the functionality has clearly changed from the previous version. I can't even get my thumb down that low with the case on and that's the natural finger to use given the placement.
#2 - Thanks for all the responses but it's an Exchange Activesync account. Others are reporting the same certificate error with Activesync so clearly there is an issue here. The notification sound appears to be broken as well for Exchange accounts.
Is it an option to go back to Froyo or do I have to get my phone replaced?

1. I agree that this design is a bit flawed and I am unclear if this is by design or a bug...
2. I wonder if it is because of the security changes made to OS to close some of the vulnerability. I wonder if since I set mine with a secure encryption and a authenticator network password is why mine is still working also this makes me think its the security settings for server.
