The same overall feel, light animated transitions,etc. Natively, through all the UI. * Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

Google has already stated the hardware specs are false for those rumors. They also stated they are going to a 6 month cycle since Froyo came out in the later 1/2 of this year that means if Gingerbread does exist then it will have to be January or later.

And here I thought you were actually expecting to get it, should have figured you knew better.

As I can see from your specs, we won't benefit from this update at all. Useless update. The new resolution would only be compatible with screens 4' and above.

With all the features we have now, what else are we gonna need?

Besides that, not even all Incredible ownsers have Froyo yet, it's too early to talk about some Gingerbread. Not even all Froyo users use all of its new features, such as 3G Hotspot and bugging apps that came with the update.

I'm just wondering what would Gingerbread bring that will make me like this phone more than I already do. Nothing.

One interesting article on the whole "name game" or "2.x / 3.0" rumor.

No real big information here but it's decent reading material.

On the flip side a leaked ROM version for the N1 apparently leaked. Nothing close to what we need for the Incredible but it's an interesting forum to read, and these guys know what they're talking about. (lots of issues)

Some kind of new radio, improved wifi stuff. The details are so far from knowing for sure.

Another exciting point (rumor) is the fact that this may be the update with Google Music! Cloud to Phone service is going to be the future here. This is an generic post for those who don't understand. I'm really excited about this one!

So far the information about this update is very very hard to find. These "rumors" can go either way at this point. I fell behind in the information category of this update due to having the busiest past few weeks of my life. Now that I've completed my personal life task I'm back. Watch out! LOL I'm kidding I'm kidding.

I'm sorry some of you haven't gotten the Froyo update yet. It's no secret how to get it if you wanted.

I'm also sorry if you don't agree with this thread. It's main job here is to better inform people on what to expect. It's not a petition forum, form, forum, whatever..

Here we go again. Now everyone on here can whine and cry for the next six months because they dont have 3.0 and then complain when they get it - just like the 2.2 froyo update.

Here is a thought... How about just be happy with the phone you have and realize that there is always going to be something new and better to come along.

The Droid Incredible is a great phone and I love it!!!

But getting updates is so much fun!

Gingerbread would be nice, I really want the new Sense UI interface to be released for it. All the backbone work is done and optimized, now a faster interface will blow anyone away, and make the iPhone look like a cheap kids toy!

The Mecha, you know, The Incrediable HD or whatever they call it. I saw a Thunder or something somewhere.

the htc "thunderbolt" will probably not be out until at least june. but i'd wait for it. it will be 4g (LTE) capable and similar to sprint's htc EVO (which is superior the our incredible). no news on gingerbread. the htc eris had a lifespan of less than a year...and it did not get 2.2. now it looks like the end of the life for the incredible (i think they'll stop selling it in march) so who knows if it will get 2.3??? if it does, it will likely be the last update it gets. all of this being said, there is still no device that vzn sells today that i would trade my incredible for!!!!

Just noticed a recent drastic price drop on the Dinc. Unless it's a short-term promo, it could portend a close-out to make room for the Thunderbolt, its likely successor, which should give everyone a time frame. Regardless of EOL, I believe the Dinc will get gingerbread, imo.

yeah....i'm pretty sure they are done selling the inc in march so i don't think it's a short term promo thing. i think it'll be $100 (or free at best buy) until they are done selling it. the eris sold for less than a year i believe so it would make sense. they are focusing on the iphone now and i would think most people looking into a vzn android after march would want to just wait until the 4g and or dual core devices come out a couple months later.

Today when I was checking my battery use, I noticed that under Android System, on of the processes it was controlling was Upgrade Setup. I've never noticed this before, so I didn't know if this was normal, or if there was a potential upgrade coming out soon. Any ideas?

Where that appears on the phone, a list of VPN Services, makes me believe it a function included in the phone and has nothing to do with the upcoming update.

As most of you know I have been one of the most vocal and staunchest defenders of the HTC Droid Incredible on these forums. I can no longer give this product or this company my support.

I contacted HTC after I read that they were not planning to update the Droid Incredible to Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" despite many assurances from Verizon and HTC, and many articles in the technical press, that they were going to do so soon, with the date being pushed repeatedly into the future. The following is my initial query to HTC's support, their reply to me, and my response.

First, my initial contact:

I have just heard today, to my tremendous surprise, disappointment and anger, that you have dropped all plans to update the operating system of the Droid Incredible to Android 2.3 "Gingerbread."

This stands in stark contrast to information I received numerous times in the past from both HTC and Verizon Wireless, and also contradicts information I have read in the technical press on many occasions.

Could this really be true? If so, let me express my deep disappointment and resentment, while at the same time giving you my complete and honest assurance that I will never again for the rest of my entire life purchase or recommend any HTC product. Note that I am a highly respected communications technician and administrator, previously the Internet Services Administrator for NASA Headquarters, and my opinion on these matters is sought out by literally hundreds of other people, many of whom purchased the Incredible solely at my recommendation.

Please tell me that I have been misinformed, because this is unacceptable with my phone still under contract for many months to come.

While I will stick with Verizon because they provide truly excellent coverage and user support, when my current contract with Verizon runs out next April I shall opt for a product from Samsung, Motorola, or another manufacturer who has shown themselves to be more willing to stand behind their products than you have done. The HTC Incredible broke new ground for usability, quality, features and convenience. It is the product that put HTC on the map, so to speak, and your decision to discontinue full support while most of its owners remain under contract is inexplicable to me, and totally, incontrovertibly, and unforgivably unacceptable. It damages your company's reputation beyond all repair, and I shall never purchase or recommend your products again.

I shall furthermore express my negative opinion of your extraordinarily substandard behavior in this regard as frequently and widely as possible, on Internet forums and elsewhere, in hopes that others do not make the same mistake that I made in expecting you to stand behind your products. I mean, Gingerbread was released last NOVEMBER, when my phone was only a few months into its contract. There is no excuse for this.

I am looking forward to April with a feeling of great anticipation for putting HTC in my past for good.

The Incredible marks my first and last adventure into the world of Android. I made the false assumption that when I preordered this phone before it's release that it would have full support throughout my contract. Every update for his phone has been delayed until after newer products got their update. Heck, I didn't actually EVER get the froyo OTA update, I waited for almost two months, calling Verizon to see when I would get it, all they offered was "u must have missed the prompt for the update-we can't push it out to you, you'll just have to wait till it gets around to you again". I gave in and downloaded the OTA myself because it was senseless to wait on them. Now, I've been waiting how long on gingerbread? And the latest news is that it won't actually happen? How does the evo get it but we don't? It is essentially the same hardware with a bigger screen and 4g. Both had somewhat similar release dates, yet the incredible has been months behind on EVERY update. Why? I guess more folks purchased evos... This is my last Android product. Too much fragmentation equals poor end user experience. Hate if you will, but I can't wait till my next upgrade discount so I can get a new iPhone. Too bad I have to hold off till December and this incredible is no longer a priority for manufacturer/carrier support.

Contrary to this guy, I'm upset. Gingerbread has been out for quite a while, being released for phones that came out before and after the Incredible. HTC/verizon's timetable for our updates just doesn't exist. This is not how software testing is supposed to work. No one wants it before its ready, but it is apparent that we are not a priority at all. Who could even guess when it will actually be pushed out to all users? Verizon did a horrible job pushing out froyo, in fact they never bothered to push it to me at all. After two months I gave up on Verizon and downloaded it myself from an xda page of users who were also tired of waiting. This should not be how it works either. Verizon should just post a link that customers can get to online since their ancient formula for pushing out OTA updates doesn't help the end user whatsoever. They never sent me froyo, even after calling twice to see if I get them to push it to me. I preordered the incredible before its release, and what I should have done is just waited for the Verizon iPhone-at least that way I wouldn't have to be depending on the wonder twin powers of Verizon/HTC to activate......

Not only s Verizon not talking atm, but appears moderators are censoring these forums for specific information regarding this update, so all I can say at this point is do a droid blog search and proceed with caution.

What do you expect them to do, come out every day and say "it's not ready yet, we're still working on it"? They probably assume you're smart enough to figure that one out on your own.

Everyone makes mistakes. Who knows, someone jumped the gun in announcing the update... Whatever the reason, it wont get here any sooner if we keep pestering.

Give it a rest, man. Verizon is notoriously quiet about updates, more so than any other carrier. You're lucky to even get a response. When us Eris users were waiting for eclair (which had also been out for months) there were 3 leaked versions and at least one false alarm OTA. It happens. That's why they roll these things out in phases. If the first group reports issues, the update gets pulled for further testing and fixes. If things roll out fine, they increase the number of recipients until everybody has it. These things aren't perfect, and there is absolutely no way for them to test in house on a large enough devices with enough variety of setups to make sure something isn't going to clash.

As for me, I'll sit back and patiently wait for your inevitable "Gingerbread ruined my Incredible" thread. If you have a real issue, and not just an entitled gimme gimme attitude, feel free to come back and I'm sure somebody around here would be perfectly willing to help you out. Until then, please do the rest of us a favor and stay away.

Verizon - You suck if you can't get this out.

I have been running Gingerbread on my Dinc for over 6 months now thanks to Cyanogen 7. I am currently running 2.3.5 with the latest baseband update. It is 100% stable and works perfectly. My battery life, performance, and options are MUCH better than with the stock sense. IT WILL WORK, why can't you do it?

If you're running CM7, then you should realize a few things.
1. CM7, being almost stock is a big change from Sense. If HTC decided to go that route, a lot of people will be quite upset having to relearn their phones again, as well as losing a bunch of stuff integral to Sense that they have gotten used to.

2. Going from Sense to stock (or vice versa) will cause huge problems if the device is not fully wiped, something that Verizon tries to avoid with updates (though IMHO, would prevent a lot of update issues if done).

3. All that being said, Sense is a lot heftier than CM7 and, most likely, has a lot more going on under the hood, without a large group of testers. Why do you think Cyanogen puts out nightlys? Add to that Verizon's bloatware (fact of life, get over it) and there's a lot more coordination that goes on.

4. You won't get the update anyway unless you revert to stock so why do you care?

I'm sure they will get this working, they just can't afford to put it an update that's blatantly broken like some of the early builds of CM7 were.
