Gingerbread update = phone crash

sunkistsudafed

Just installed the new update..when my phone rebooted my home screen came up but it wouldn't let me scroll to the other pages, select anything on the main screen or drop down menu, and after probably 15 seconds the screen goes black except for the top pull down menu which you can see but not use. It also won't let me power off, I have to take the battery out--which I've done, as well as the SD card--still does the same thing.

I am seeing the exact same symptoms.  My X is now useless.  Does anyone have a solution for this?

I just got off the phone with Verizon Tech Support on this issue.  They stepped me through a factory reset which deleted all the data on my phone, and all my settings, but I am back up and running on Gingerbread.  They were very helpful and apologetic.

sunkistsudafed,

Sadly software updates don't always go as smoothly as planned. There are times when there a problems with your device after a software update, you will then need to do a master reset which will resolve the issues.

Steps for Master Reset on Droid X

It will not erase: Current System software and bundled applications; SD Card files, such as music or Photos

From the main screen, touch menu tab
Touch Settings
Touch Privacy
Touch Factory Data reset
Touch Reset Phone
Touch Erase Everything
Warning: This will erase all data from your phone, including:

  • Your Google account
  • System and application data and settings
  • Downloaded Applications
