I have to admit, I haven't been paying attention. So be gentle and forgive me if this is a silly question, but, will "Gingerbread" becoming to Droid X? :smileysad:

That's alright Martinisloth, I got where you were trying to go with it, no harm. I just saw that the first phone with Gingerbread was introduced yesterday, and also saw that there was a new update, so I assumed they might be the same...

Thanks for clarifying everyone, ALL the responses posted were helpful, thanks.

This update is supposed to hit today, right? I very surprised there isn't more chatter about it. Especially so compared to the feeding frenzy caused by the FROYO update...

This was written in DECEMBER... And people wonder why we have been frustrated with the release of Gingerbread for the DX. 6 months later and it's FINALLY coming out. Oh well, I'm just happy it's coming out...

From what I can tell this is not the gingerbread updated, just an update. http://androidcommunity.com/motorola-droid-x-gets-updated-version-2-3-340-brings-in-madden-11-201012...

But when I try to do the system update it says that my device is up to date. Has Anyone been able to do this updated on the Droid X??

That isn't Gingerbread.  A list of Gingerbread compatible phones has not even been released.  The only phone to be confirmed is the Nexus S which doesn't ship until the 16th of this month.  I wouldn't expect Gingerbread updates before the end of the year.

Gingerbread will start to show up for other Android devices sometime after the Nexus S release. In the meantime, more Gingerbread details are here http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.3-highlights.html

OK, I think we get that this is not Gingerbread. The real question is , has anyone downloaded the latest 2.3.340 update? (that, btw, is NOT Gingerbread)...

You simply added your own question as a reply to another persons post, so don't get upset that people are answering the OP's question.

As for when the next update will be available, none of us know.  VZW had the 2.2 update pdf up several days before 2.2 was available.

Your absolutely right crb79. I did try to hijack the thread with my question/response.  My apologies to the OP....

Yesterday was the official unveiling of the 2.3 the actual release will be the 16th when the Nexus S ships.  If you track time-lines, the Droid X got the 2.2 update about 2 months after the phone's release.  I'd imagine we'd be looking at at least 1-2 months after 2.3's release before we got it.

Of course this is all speculation because Motorola hasn't verified if we are even getting 2.3 or not.  But it's fun to discuss if nothing else.

Well, it seemed like you answered your own question (that the DX update isn't Gingerbread)  in your second post, which was third in the thread. So I took the liberty of pushing the conversation in the right direction. Sorry again if it seemed pushy, wasn't my intention.

Glad you got your answers though....

Great news!!! Gingerbread is coming officially from Verizon Wireless on the Droid X!  We updated our support page for the Droid X with this information.  You can view the Support Page and the Update Document .  It's coming very soon, but no date has been communicated.  Once we update the official device page, the update comes out very soon afterwards.

Thanks for your patience!  Enjoy that new Gingerbread when it comes available!
