Gmail and contacts issue

I am trying to SYNC my contacts and it isnt working.  Ive tried to sign in to my account using both my accounts and thats not working.  I need to reset my phone and I dont want to lose all of my contacts.  Can someone please help and give me detailed instructions (I am in no way TECH savvy).  So please help.

Depending on how you are syncing your contacts I have provided the instruction below:

Step 1. Export the contacts as a .*CSV using the one following Personal Information Managers. ***If you already have a .*CSV from your information manager, skip to Step 2.

Outlook/Outlook Express/Windows Mail

Step 2. Import the .*CSV contacts into Gmail. ***If you already have the contacts imported, skip to Step 3.

***If you do not have a Gmail account, follow the instruction below. 

1. Navigate to http://mail.google.com/mail/signup.
2. Fill out the Create an Account form and submit.

Step 3. Log into the existing Gmail account on the new Android device.
The contacts will sync automatically over the air. ***If it does not, check the article on this setting below:
