I would try going into account settings on your droid and making sure that you account is set to puch and then check and see how often it updates. If that doesnt work or you have already tried that. Go onto your computer and try the same thing on you actual computers account in gmail.

Try this, go to Settings > Accounts & Sync and turn ON Auto-sync. Make sure that the Google-app has a green refresh-icon next to it. Let me know of this works for you!

There is no auto sync.
There is settings > account > google/gmail account > sync gmail.
The sync gmail option looks to be nothing more than a manual one time thing and doesn't continue syncing or work after that..

Alright I think I got it now. This route...
bring up gmail > menu key > accounts > menu key > account settings > auto sync option.
It was turned off and just turned it on, so should be working now. Thanks.

WIth Android 2.2 and Gmail v2.3 it is not:
bring up gmail > menu key > accounts > menu key > account settings > auto sync option.
Now it takes you to "DataManger"
So doing the following ::: bring up gmail > menu key > accounts > menu key > account settings
Data Manager > Data Delivery > (Application data delivery) Email and Corporate Sync > Email delivery > Data Push (CHECKED)
Data Manager > Data Delivery > (Application data delivery) Email and Corporate Sync > Background data (CHECKED)
Data Manager > Data Delivery > (Application data delivery) Email and Corporate Sync > Data enabled(CHECKED)
Data Manager > Data Delivery > (Application data delivery) Email and Corporate Sync > Data Roaming (unchecked)
Is there anything i need to configure on gmail.com to support this??

I factory reset my phone and only added my gmail account and magically the " Email and Corporate Sync" option is grayed out.
Also, the google account now has green checkboxes next to Mail,Contacts, and Calendar selections, before there was no checkbox even on the screen.
Push now works for me.

I had trouble with syncing my Gmail, Contacts & Calendar.
When I called Verizon Tech Support they kept telling me about the check mark boxes on the screen is "Settings".
They seemed perplexed when I told when my screen did not have any check mark boxes at all (not greyed out, none at all)..
Finally they realized that I had a software/OS problem and had me do a factory reset.
After the factory reset, the check mark boxes appeared which allowed me to configure syncing.
Once I was able to do that, syncing has worked for me ever since.

Maybee they saw my post LOL. Glad you got it up and running wihtout much hassel!
... When i bought mine, after constantly asking the rep for the phone he still felt inclined to setup my phone for me and test it out.... so i am not sure how it was initially configured.
After i reset, i logged into the app market facebook app before i tried out the motorola facebook integration, and then it would not let me add my facebook account(contact pictures and such were not working). Every time i would try to log into the motorola app it would throw an error (or timeout... i forget).
So after a second reset, i logged into the moto facebook 1st, then app market facebook. and i finanlly had gmail/facebook working on the phone.
Comming from windows mobile, i was quick to bash microsoft... but after these resets i ate my words.... still debating the 30 day return policy and getting windows phone 7.
