Gmail sync no longer works

I can access my Gmail account from the browser on my Droid but if I try to access it from the Gmail icon the screen that appears shows the Inbox status from 2 days ago.  The recent email in my Inbox will not load.  There is a "Loading conversations" status bar at the bottom of the screen that never completes.

I have looked at the "Accounts and sync settings" and it shows that Sync is ON for my Gmail.  If I look at the details on the Sync for my Gmail account it shows that the Contacts and Calendar did a sync just a few moments ago but the timestamp on the Gmail sync is stuck from the last sync 2 days ago.

Does anyone have any idea why the Gmail sync is no longer working?

Try this: Menu > Applications > Manage Applications > Menu > Filter > All ... Scroll to Gmail and select it, then "Clear Cache". Then do a battery pull reboot to the phone.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I followed the steps, but it's still not working.

Try the same steps, but instead of "clear cache", select "clear data". You will have to re-enter your google account info after the reboot though. I recommend making a backup of your contacts to a CSV file from a PC before doing it, just to be safe.

Clearing the data makes no difference either.

As soon as I click on the Google icon it goes straight to the same screen that shows messages from 2 days ago in the Inbox and the same status that it is trying to load the conversations.  When it can't load the conversations it then says "No connection."  But the messages from 2 days ago are still sitting there.  I tried composing a message from this screen and now I have another message listed at the top with a status of "Sending" that never gets sent.  It seems that there should be a way to get out of this screen; something like a Logout option but there appears no way to do anything to get back to a login or configuration screen.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Clearing the data should have completely reset the account.  After clearing data did you do a battery pull and reboot the phone? You should wait 10-20 seconds before replacing the battery.

Another option is to go to Accounts & Sync, select your Gmail account and then select "Remove Account".  This will definitely reset everything and you will have to re-enter all of your Gmail account information.

Yes, I did do the battery pull and waited before putting it back.  I've done it several times.  After I do the erase it says there is 0 KB of data.  But after doing the battery pull and turning it back on and going to the Gmail "Manage application" there is again 16 KB of data.

When I tried to delete the Gmail account it said that because Gmail is required by other applications I had to do the delete by going to Settings-->Privacy.  Now I am looking at a "Factory data reset" option that says all data will be erased from the phone.

After I got the phone last week I had to call a 1-800 number to have the account configured.  That number is at home (I'm now visiting family in another state).   I will call the 1-800 number again to see if a Verizon technician can help me.  I'm not comfortable with having to delete all the data from the phone because then I'm not sure what sort of state it will be in.

Thanks for the help, though.

This is very strange.  When I turned the phone on this morning the Gmail synch suddenly started working.  I was notified that I had new emails waiting for me and I was able to go straight to the Gmail Inbox and view the messages.  I don't know why after 3 days it suddenly started working again.

That is a bit odd. My best guess would be your connection at where you were at? My best guess would be that there was lack of connection and that's why it didn't recieve information. Or an issue on Google's part. But I've been receiving e-mails perfectly fine for the past few days, no problems at all.
