I've started using the Gmail app because it allows me to move emails to other folders (labels).
I have Gmail retrieving my roadrunner email and sending from my roadrunner email.
My problem is that it isn't deleting the emails from the server.
I don't see anything in the gmail settings on the app or google to delete messages from the server.
Any ideas?

I'll be more than happy to assist you with making sure your emails are deleted from the server. Follow this steps to do so...
open the email app
go to where you see the list of incoming emails
push the tab with the lines at the bottom of the phone
open the account settings
scroll down
open incoming settings
at the bottom is "delete email from server"
Make sure that option is selected. Hope this is helpful.

The droid 2 does not have an option for delete email on server, neither in the gmail app or the email app. The droid 2 also doesn't have the tab with the lines.

I have had my DROID 2 a few hours and have been looking for online info how to use it! I see a note from Natashia that to remove email from server to "push the tab with the lines at the bottom of the phone" and "open the account settings." What tab with lines at the bottom of the phone? Thanks!

As my post says, there is no tab with lines at the bottom of the droid 2, it's on the droid. Look at a picture of the droid.

I ended up changing the settings in gmail to not leave retrieved emails on roadrunner's server.
Now all the email from roadrunner is transfered to gmail and the gmail app on the Droid handles the email almost exactly the way I want it. I have my alternate folders, but I can't seem to tell gmail when to retrieve. Someone has stated that gmail uses some type of polling algorithym to determine when to check.

Yes, it does. It's based on how many emails it retrieves when it "fetches" mail from that account; if there are more from a particular email, it will "poll" that email more often. When there are fewer, the time interval is greater. I don't think you can manually set how often it will retrieve. But hey - it's free and it does a whole lot!!!
I have several accounts set up through Gmail; if I am expecting an email on a particular acount and it has just retrieved mail, meaning it won't be polling again for another 30 minutes or whatever, I will use the option to "retireve mail now" - but that's from my computer. I don't know if you can do that from your phone....

Suzy did you get an android phone yet??? I think you may be wrong on the part about manually retrieving gmail. I know on my phone I just go into my settings and I can select different methods to getting my gmail. Although it my be different on every android phone.

To manually check-- Settings>accounts and sync>touch gmail address(be sure sync is on-put checkmark in both boxes)>menu button>"sync now".
BTW, the "tab with the white lines" is the menu button.

That is no different than hitting the refresh button from the gmail app. It only syncs what is already in the google folders, it does not make google retrieve emails from your other account(s).
In order to make it retrieve from my roadrunner account when I want it to, I have to go to google on the web and tell it to check mail now.
